I've enjoyed playing Apex Ranked....

Over the last several years.

It's a really great game mode. Great loop. Best BR game mode.

The lack of team play and chemistry is disheartening. I thought the devs would keep Apex Ranked on a more competitive route. I'm really disappointed 😟

Promoting solo queuing is not good. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see in a couple of days. I will be watching. I've never played past Diamond 3, so this change doesn't apply to players like me. I'm not ratting or playing cat and mouse with Skirmishers just to rank up. That's what players are doing. Skill in BR should be determined by playing to win (king of the hill) while amassing eliminations, as with the ALGS. Furthermore, playing zone is the only true way to "consistently" win matches.

For me it's team play or nothing, at this point. 🤝

I think solo queuing in Diamond+ will be a rat fest. I think solo queue only servers in general will cause bottleneck issues if fully implemented. This may result in longer wait times, especially during non peak hours. I think solo queue only servers will create a "crabs in a bucket" situation. Additionally, if some high performing solo queue players climb the Ranked Ladder faster than the majority who will these players play against? It sounds like a matchmaking nightmare to try and filter the best 60 players into a lobby in a timely fashion. If these high performing solo queue players are pitted against low performing solo queue players this experiment could be unfavorable, and a waste of valuable time.

Additionally, players will always outsmart the matchmaking system. That's how stream sniping occurs. Players, most likely, will be able to get into a match together the higher they rank because the player population will be lower. This means players will still have an opportunity to stack. Maybe not every match, but it can happen. I've watched a lot of Apex streams over the years and the top tier players still end up in matches together when solo queuing. Regarding PC, the notion that players in the pro community won't end up on the same teams in the Predator tier is not true. This will only happen if they do not play Ranked. Once solo queue players realize they can't rank up they will blame their stagnation on the points system. The blame that solo queue players can't reach Predator tier will shift elsewhere, creating the same problems. 🤷‍♂️

If a Ranked "solo queue only server" is added to the game I would try that, but this current melting pot of different types of game play is unfavorable. How do solo queue players supposed to rank up if all three players on a team have different mindsets on how to play? One player may want to play aggressive, one player may want to play passive, and players like myself want to play passive-aggressive (pick and choose the right fights to win) while playing zone.

All I have now is my story mode games and Prominence Poker. Instead of solo queuing, predominately, in Apex Ranked I would rather play games that "require" me to play alone. I will miss y'all though. 😢

Lastly, I hope you all come together as a community, because it takes a village to succeed. It's the only true way whether we like it or not.

Edit - Updated title and some wording to focus specifically on Ranked.

I think the best answer is "variety".

At this point there should be a server for pre-made squads only and a server for solo queuing only.

I understand that you're okay with playing with randoms and playing nonchalantly, but that mentality isn't universal. Some players would like to have more options to meet like-minded players in-game.

Personally, when I'm in the social networking mood I will amass a group of in-game friends to play with. Amassing a group of friends is so much harder than in previous years because everyone is so accustomed to solo queuing. This problem started when the devs added a "solo queue only requeue feature" a couple of years back. The problem has been fixed with the Play with Squad feature, but the monster has already been created; a Frankenstein scenario.

Also, when we had Ranked drop zones only I was able to link up with like-minded players a lot easier. I think because drop zones promoted team play and some players wanted to alleviate the stress of solo queuing in that environment. I was one of those players. Once Ranked switched back to the Dropship I found it harder to link up with like-minded players again. Dropping hot and dying doesn't encourage players to requeue with each other. No confidence was created.

I played my last Ranked game last night. Chasing my teammates around the map isn't it anymore. Playing Ranked with randoms is basically "their way or the highway", one dimensional game play.  Nobody wants to have a "mutual strategy". I wanted to climb to Diamond again to try out the new update, but I stopped playing at Plat 3 on PS5 (and Plat 2 on Switch 2).

I will still play Apex on occasion to hot drop and kill farm in Wildcard, but that's about it for me.

  • Well-reasoned, well-said.

Like you, I'm a player who toils at a skill level where none of this will ever have any effect on me, though if it did it would be no hardship as I really genuinely dislike playing with people I know. But overall I have to say that this enforced solo queue at higher ranks very much has the look and feel of a bandaid on a much bigger problem. And as usual developers will treat the symptom instead of treating the disease. I expect because it's easier and cheaper than... what? Acknowledging fully that they would rather leave solo queue players at permanent disadvantage than create new modes that are not team-based? Or just say out loud fully and finally that if you solo queue in a team game then you're artificially capping your advancement and that you better make your peace with it and stop complaining? I don't know. I don't know what the best answer is, but I have a pretty good feeling that this solution they've come up with is definitely not it. Like you, I'll wait and watch.
