The Kraber, relatively speaking is pretty awful for what it is.
Scope in time is insanely high (0.58s) with no way of reducing it. So this weapon is enormously difficult to use aggressively.
ROF makes the damage output pretty useless on its own. Sure you just hit someone for 125 or even ~188. They take cover during the ~0.83s you have between shots (not including if you need to unscope and rotate to get an angle again and take that 0.58s to scope in again) go use a phoenix kit or health drone + shield battery and they're ready to fight again and odds are you won't get another hit in because they're aware of you. Add on to it that the Kraber has the slowest bullet velocity among all the sniper rifles means it also the hardest to get a hit in at range.
So Kraber is worse when used in close range aggression, worse in long range picking, and worse in mid range engagements than literally all 3 of the other sniper rifles. The few situations that I think kraber does well basically every Assault Rifle, the DMR, G7 Scout, Wingman and Peacekeeper would be significantly better options especially since you have ammo for them.
Side note, Zoom In/Scope time in this game is pretty long in general and especially for the sniper rifles even with stock upgrades.

I just feel like it works the same as most other sniper rifles. It's not really a get the kill weapon, it's more of a support weapon. Pin your enemies down, deal excessive damage, break shields, and force enemies into bad positions so your team can secure the kill, and pick off any enemies trying to escape.
Most snipers you're not gonna be able to hit more then 2 or 3 shots on someone before they can get behind cover. The Kraber does more damage then the longbow can in three shots (not head shots) with just 1.
Like all sniper rifles, it's a situational weapon. Use it in the wrong situation, and it's basically useless. Use it in the right one, and you'll secure the win for your squad. You might not necessarily get the kills, but you did your part in winning the fight.- 7 years ago

You might not necessarily get the kills, but you did your part in winning the fight.First. Technically 3 shots from a Longbow DMR actually does more damage (55 x 3 = 165) than the Kraber's 125 damage body.
Second. Your scenario the Kraber would be a straight downgrade to a marginally kitted DMR except you don't get highlighted enemies if you didn't find a Digital Threat sniper scope. Assuming blue attachments on a DMR + ignoring glitches you get a higher effective DPS (more shots will hit + faster reload + larger mag), faster scope in speed, a significantly larger magazine, a significantly faster reload speed, very often you have a significantly larger ammo pool, higher bullet velocity making hitting shots easier, way faster weapon switch speed and not to mention all the benefits the DMR gets for reduced spread, sway and recoil from attachments.
The Kraber stat wise is worse or equal to a stock DMR except on damage and it spawns with a digital threat. Once you get attachments for the DMR the comparison stops outside of single shot burst damage which is inconsistent and unreliable and also precisely what is wrong with the Kraber anyway. Purple Helmet + Purple Armor means you won't die, sure you have to spend an extra 4-5s in cover to heal HP but that only matters if your teammates can follow up on it, but they'll have a hard time doing that cause the other squad knows you have a kraber and can position themselves in a way they're effectively fighting a 2v2 and then a 3v2, this is exactly the same thing that would happen with a Longbow with skull piercing, 1 guy takes cover and the other 2 fight off your teammates. In other words there's no reason to grab a kraber if you already have a longbow + midlevel attachments.
TL;DR1
Longbow with attachments >>> Kraber >= Stock Longbow
Personally, I think all the snipers except the G7 Scout are pretty meh. All of them have little ability to effectively follow up headshot damage (low ROF, large spread on immediate successive shots, etc). All of them are a pain to use aggressively due to long scope in time and movement spread. Long range damage within the game is mostly meaningless or at best less effective than just closing the distance with an AR, SMG, Wingman or Shotgun. Yeah there's some use cases where the Longbow and TripleTake are OK but those are few and far between and usually worse than having an AR, Wingman or Peacekeeper.
Best solution imo, slightly lower zoom in/scope time for all weapons especially sniper rifles + give Longbow, Triple-Take and Kraber a larger stock headshot modifier. The mastiff can 1 shot headshot why can't the Kraber?
TL;DR2
G7 Scout / AR / Wingman + SMG / Peacekeeper is far more effective than Other Snipers + anything.

Kind of my point about snipers in general. You're not going to get kills with the gun very often, you're better off in most situations just working your way closer to the enemy. That's kind of the reason I said snipers are so situational, and that they are more for assisting then they are for killing.
The Kraber is just another example of this, it just has the high damage potential for a single shot. Which is about how many you're going to get someone with anyway.
I don't disagree that it is certainly likely the enemy team is going to counter your teams push, but that is why you as the sniper need to continue to put rounds down range. I'm not even saying the Kraber is the better of the snipers to do this with. I'm just saying it has that strong initial damage output.
This whole thing covers more then just the Kraber. It brings attention to the usefulness of snipers in general. I would even argue that in most cases, you're better off using other weapons. The snipers are just lack luster in a lot of situations, and even if you're consistently hitting targets, without followup from your team, there isn't much point.
More often then not the enemy can simply hide, heal, and then be back in the fight in a few seconds. Faster then any of your team can reach them to actually make your shots worthwhile.
Now I am not gonna say that I haven't secured a few kills, or done some decent plays with the longbow and scout. Some situations are perfect for them. I am just saying that those situations are very far a few between, and that in most cases, you'd of been better off with just about any other weapon. That though is why I stand with my opinion of snipers being more of an assist weapon than anything. Pop a few shots off, hope to do some damage, maybe break a shield, and then either cover your team as they go forward, or move forward yourself in hopes you can take advantage of those first initial shots.
- 6 years ago@Comanglia I got one shoted with 248 damage and I was wearing a purple helmet. How does that make sense. Last two squads so I was peed.
- 6 years ago@lookitsmrx Bruh, you just resurrected almost a year old topic with completly outdated info, because that discussion happened like 15 balancing patches ago.
