Not sure if anyone here is familiar with the game from Behavior Interactive, "Dead By Daylight"? But I had a similar experience. Players were really fresh when the game was released. Players, ofcourse, weren't "pros" or masters to start with. But ofcourse, over time, players got more and more adept. Their matchmaking system was "skill-based" too, and to be honest: I felt pretty good at the game. But I remember taking "dives" in matches Just to let the other players have more fun- and thus, myself included.
In Apex Legends though, ofcourse there isn't really room to show mercy- I know I don't. So ofcourse, I do get some matches where I get gunned down and think, "Yeah... they play this a lot." or, "they're just too good.". But I still play to my strengths and I'm still able to wipe experienced players. It's not always easy, but sometimes, it works in your behalf. A "pro"-like player can make some awful mistakes that "noobs" will not- simply because all their experience has taught them a certain way.
