You can still take damage though?
There isn't really anything 'safe' about it imo. You can take damage, be traced & followed through the void.
Having played with/as her more over the last few days I still feel as though she needs a rework/redesign.
In my mind I can see her as a flanker, getting in and out of combat fast with minimal damage taken but rn she doesn't really do that & I'm struggling to find scenarios in which her abilities are more useful than any other hero ability.

Agreed. That's my point. Any good player can simply follow you and you're dead as soon as your ability is over.
Most of these people thinking that making her invisible would make her "OP" simply are not good enough to watch the trail. Because any moderate to good player can easily do so.
Then the required cooldown after she leaves her ability gives you absolutley no chance against a good player. Yes she's an ultimate noob slayer for people who are not sure what to expect, but any seasoned player can easily time all her stuff.
