More transparency in Ranked Arenas - is it coming?
Simple but important question: in Battle Royale the ranks of the opponents are displayed - why hasn't this been implemented in Ranked Arenas yet?
It begs the question because I feel that the ranking system in Arenas is neither fair nor comprehensible to the player. These are all anecdotal examples and I don't intend to claim that my view is fully accurate. But many of my friends have had the same experiences and I therefore wonder whether or not other players have had similar experiences.
a.) Why do I play with and against players who are 2 ranks higher than me? I have been playing regularly against people with Diamond and Master batches, even though I am Gold. Initially, I thought that these were individuals who perhaps haven't played in a long time and are now getting back into it. This started to happen more frequently so I started asking my teammates about their ranks because the banners of my opponents were always pretty impressive. It turned out that in most matches I was matched with people in Diamond or late Platinum Rank. Why? I'm Gold I - what am I doing there?
b.) Strong skill differences in the same rank: Then there is the issue of inconsistency. How can it be that on the same rank on the same level three games are super easy - as if you play against bronze - and three other games are so difficult that they are not doable. I don't think something like that should happen in a ranking system. The point of ranking is that you keep progressing until you find your place. And not that one game is against perceived beginners and a following one against masters.
c.) Many games with players who are only in placement matches? This is not a problem per se, but again - I would find it good to know that my ranked match is being completed with someone who does not yet have a rank.
It would actually be helpful if I could see the ranks of my teammates as well as my opponents in the loading screen and death recap. Otherwise the ranking system seems arbitrary and incomprehensible, not to mention that it fosters distrust in the fairness of Ranked Arenas. I think it's a shame that Respawn isn't more transparent here.
