New updates

Through all the crap that's been going on, I'm happy to say that I'm actually really excited for this new season.

I just heard a lot of new nerfs/buffs, add-ons, take aways, and not to mention a new and slightly bigger map that looks great. Hats off from a $$$-hat great job EA. You will be earning my battle pass 🤝🏾

Ps- I really hope there is a solos- ranked coming and also you do something about using the red coins you give us. Maybe not forcing us to buy a skin just to use them. Other then that, looking forward to the release date🤙🏾

  • @DoYaSeeMe  I understand some of the concern with split player base. I am just starting to play Apex again after a month off. The disconnects have certainly been controlled much better. In regards to solo splitting or not splitting the player base, TF2 still has an active lobby, I have been playing multi player and frontier defense along with re-playing the story mode over the last month. In any given game time the worst wait I saw was 1 minute. Not really sure when the wait time was longer than that tbh. Of course I took breaks from it for COD and Fortnite. On a side note I am neither in favor of nor against solo, Fortnite succeeded with those offerings because it had LTM's rolled out every week alongside the other modes.

Personally I would like to see the ability to play custom matches more than a solo mode but that is my feeling on it. Ltm's will bring new life to the game as witnessed recently with solo and the armed and dangerous event. I don't think solos would break or split Apex, but since I don't design games for a living it is just an opinion like everyone else's.

  • @DoYaSeeMe Okay well I didn't read those topics and I probably won't, so it's nice that you summarized it.

Player base splitting is fine especially when atm you're not splitting, you're losing. Losing profit.

It's not straying. In fact linking to the back story, a solos mode perfectly allows players to get use to the legends of their choice, also helping them warm up to the idea of how the game runs. Training modes don't adequately allow you train each legend and in combat form. This can make or break a persons decision to play the game.

There is so much to learn in this game and quite honest if I wasn't such a sweat in playing games I would of given up on this one a long time ago just because of how long it takes to get use to the fast game play with no breath to learn not only the style of play but the functions of each legend, not to mention how to work their abilities with your other teammates that for the most part will not know your legends abilities because they are to busy mastering theirs.

Yet.... Developers want to encourage you use all the legends.

Now you may be one of those guys that is well rounded, like me idgaf, I can use em all every gun in whatever way, but not a lot of people do that.
They have 1 main with maybe 1 or 2 possible replacements and a few guns they use.

Games been out what a year? And there is still plenty of ogs that don't know a thing about majority of these legends. Solos increases the chances of learning everything you need to know about the game. I see win/win from a personal and business perspective.

@SilentChillBruhPlayer base splitting means long queues. It's one thing to wait 15 seconds to get in a 2 minute match instead of 5 minutes. Sure, it's not noticeable now, but look at Titanfall 2, their previous game, where the playerbase shrunk to about 15-20k after 2 years. The T2 MP had about 16 game modes,so you can imagine that less popular ones required hours of waiting time to get a match. Actually, even in upper ranks in Apex the waiting time is so bad that it's killing the interest of some players and push others to create smurf accounts and get some fun wiping lobbies in unranked / low ranks.

I think this game was aimed at hardcore players, the fact that so many midcore and casual players came and stayed is thanks to Apex being so addictive through its competitiveness and complexity. Solo mode will break this nice mix, it is a simplified mode where some of the more original features like ping system and respawning are removed and players don't actually learn anything about working as a team. Having this available at all times will make many players go the easy way instead of trying to become better at cooperating. As proof, the quality of teamplay and number of leavers got significantly worse right after solo mode ended.

Of course the devs want you to use all the legends, they make money out of skins. But more than money, new and uniquely balanced legends bring new synergies in teamplay, changing the feel of the game. Look at Crypto for example, he's going to change the tactics in multiplayer a lot, while just making a solo mode even more about camping / hiding.

  • @DoYaSeeMe Ah I see,
In that case I really don't see it ending up like titanfall. I don't see Apex getting close to 16 modes. At most solos, duos, and maybe armed and dangerous if that ever becomes a thing again. Possibly a ranked for solos. But these modes encourage more traffic. Other wise the player base will dwindle with every passing season. Yea it's cool they are making new legends. But at the rate they are making them, it is not fast enough to keep the interest of players. I mean they waited 2 full season to buff Bangalore and Gibraltar. The reason there are long ques because not enough people are playing. I've seen in threads on reddit recently, people are jumping ship in regions just to get there AP ranks because there is simply not enough people playing. You need casual play to turn into hardcore play. The game won't survive with out the casuals that just love the game and want to play a great game with their friends. I also believe they need to fix the the ranking system a bit. 5 kills max encourages way more camping. Diamond is literally a campfest. That is what is killing the interest. Nobody wants to camp 240 points.480 really because platinum is also a campfest/3P.

People have even said solos gave them more of an appreciation for teams. You just need something to balance it out. And solos does that. Even duos.

And is there statistical proof that this got worse after solos? Can I see these charts. And I wonder if there was a solos/duos mode would these guys have even joined teams to begin with. It's not an easy way out, it's an option to guys that don't want to be forced to play teams at the time. You can't force someone to cooperate lol. You have to let them be able to work it out for themselves. Or they'll just quit the game all together. This is the bigger picture.

@SilentChillBruh No statistical proof, just personal feeling, shared by a few other forum members. I doubt we'll ever get to see actual numbers publicly available.

Anyway, not long ago, there was an article stating that there are 8-10 million weekly active players, which is a lot in my oppinion, If the long waiting happened with this many players, the problem will certainly get bigger over time.

Permanent modes should have ranked versions, so solo and team mode means actually having 4 splits of the playerbase. Each of these modes will suffer additionally when a limited time mode like Armed & Dangerous is added, as something like this can easily eat up half of the available playerbase. This way, during an event, a permanent mode would likely get only one eighth of the playerbase roughly.

Also, modes in Titanfall 2 didn't require 60 players, I think the maximum number was 12 or so, while some of them were lower, even 1v1.

@mastiffslinger I've tried Titanfall 2 MP recently, was waiting like 1-2 minutes for attrition in the evening, but tried something else (can't remember which) and gave up after 10 minutes. Regarding Apex, I usually see 60-150 players in queue, but had some recent unranked matches ending with only 18-19 teams total. Also, I sometimes ended up alone in the selection screen, which makes me think they are forcing the match to start like every 2 minutes or so, provided that more than ~50 people are in the queue.

There is a lot of room for more original modes, besides A&D, which I really liked. There can be PvE, Pistols only, Melee only, Attack vs Defense, Bounty hunt, etc. and I trust Respawn coming up with more original and refreshing ideas in the future events.
