Nintendo Switch Port Feedback
Apex Legends has been on the Nintendo Switch for just over a week, and I have played about 10 hours of the port and have some feedback to give to the developers.
Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch is a really fun experience. It had to sacrifice some of the beautiful graphics you'd see on the PC for example to maintain a steady 30 FPS. The port is definitely playable and I want to commend the people at Respawn and Panic Button for porting the game to the platform.
The Nintendo Switch port manages to still capture what made Apex good in the first place: the satisfying movement and gun play as well as smooth gameplay. If you're wondering whether or not to even consider downloading the port on your Switch, you should! It still feels like Apex and is very playable, however does have worse graphics than the other versions of the game.
Despite all this, I really recommend you do not make the Switch your main platform to play Apex, unless a Switch is the only Apex compatible device you own. If you already own a Gaming PC, Xbox or PlayStation I'd strongly recommend making that platform for Apex rather than the Switch, as you will have a much better experience on either of those platforms. That doesn't mean you shouldn't also own the Switch version as a side platform to play on however. When you're on the go and want to play Apex, owning the Switch version will prove useful. Heck, you can even play it in the classroom! 👿 (Disclaimer: I don't condone this behaviour.)
That being said, there is one major issue with the port that needs to be addressed as soon as possible: cross play.
Firstly, putting Switch players in lobbies with console players means that a) they will rarely be able to actually win a gun fight with a PS/XB player because the player on the console will have a better resolution, graphics and aim and b) they may ruin the experience for console players if they constantly lose fights with other console players.
The best solution to this, and somebody at the Apex Legends team please do something about this, is:
- Nintendo Switch players will only be matched with other Nintendo Switch players
- If a Nintendo Switch player is in the same party as a player on PC, Xbox or PlayStation, only then will they be matched in console/PC lobbies
I'm going to rate Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch 6/10. If they fix the cross play issue, then my opinion will move up to a 7.
