OLED burn in/image retention due to HUD. Busy HUD
Hello,
Those of us with OLEDs displays and playing this game a lot are starting to get burn-in, or more appropriately named, image retention. It is specifically the squads remaining HUD element on the top right. It is pure white and black (pixels fully white/bright and pixels black/off) and is very similar through out the match. I have heard Plasma displays also having the issue. I actually don't want to play as much simply because of the image retention. It is lasting now even days after my last binge of playing Apex.
Can there be more HUD options for opacity to certain elements? I came up with the following after trying to think on this for a while, both for burn in, as well has HUD clutter/focus:
HUD - You have 2 main opacity sliders, one for "active" elements, say 90-100% default, and one for "inactive" elements, say 50% or 75% default. If an element, say your health or squads left counter, has not changed in the last 5 seconds, it will dim to the value you set for "inactive" elements.
AR - I would also like to suggest second set of opacity sliders for AR elements (pings, waypoint pings, revive/recover, etc), specifically, that are near your crosshair. You would have the option of how wide the radius around your crosshair is which acts as the threshold for when AR/elements dim. And like the HUD, there are two opacity sliders. In this case, one opacity slider for AR elements outside this radius, another slider for AR elements inside the crosshair radius.
Primarily, this gives the player the freedom to style how they want information presented and balance it against their ability to see the actual world/enemies/etc. Also, people like me who have displays that can suffer from image retention can help prevent any image retention.
Thanks!
