Pinging Objects and Materials
Firstly, I'm sure we can all agree that Apex Legends Ping system is very helpful to "random" teammates. It helps with players being able to communicate in a fluid manner through the Legends' voice- and not our own. But sadly, it's becoming more apparent that pinging is starting to lose its edge. For instance:
- Pinging respawn dropships, no longer notifies the team of an enemy respawning- rather, it just alerts that there's an "Enemy".
- Loot Vaults can only be pinged as a "Closed Door".
- Rampart has no voice line for pinging a Vault Key.
- Various times; Attempting to bring up the Ping wheel only causes a faint "thumbs up" to appear (as if pinging response to a teammate pinging a respawn beacon) and doesn't allow you to ping at all- as if you were aiming at the sky. (Most probably a bug that will need to be reported)
I really like that the developers added the little "pop-up" ping (similar to pinging "Thankyou"/"Your Welcome") when defeating an enemy. It helps other players get to have more style -something I was already doing manually though. I really do not like the pop-up ping for "Mark New Materials" (after collecting Materials from a cache), or in the beginning drop, where players can ping "Mark Materials". This includes the "pop-up" ping for the replicator- after exhausting all Material resources in the area.
This "pop-up" pings for materials DO NOT alert or notify other teammates On-screen- And rightly so! Because it would definitely cause players to become distracted with items being highlighted for them. But teammates will still hear a voice line for "Suggesting a Location". This is misleading.
These additional pings also "drown out" other pings. When trying to respond to a "pop-up" ping for Thankyou/Your Welcome, If I collected Materials at about the same time; My character says nothing at all. Or they simply "Suggest a Location" to my team members (Materials- which ONLY I see.)
This is the Number One issue with Season Six for me. Not "SBMM, cheating, Legend balance or EVO shields". These "pop-up" pings for materials, along with other ping adjustments, are of serious concern for me personally. (It's just a game, but it's one aspect that I don't wish to be devalued- neither do I think the developers do too)
