I came to Apex with my previous FPS game being Quake 3 insta gib mode = railgun insta 1 shot 1 kill mode (basically what Valorant or CS is when playing with Operator).
My first impression of recoil and bullet drop was honestly a good one. It felt nice that there are various options aka low risk low reward weapons as 301 or high risk high reward weapons like Wingman or Devotion (at season 7 level).
First thing I noticed was what I call "wingman gods" which I still fear to this day = your running and gunning Wraith or Octane just spamming in magically hitting if not all then for sure more than 50% of shots with this gun in many cases getting headshots with its insane multiplier. I would assume this is why magazine size was drastically reduced and skullpiercer removed...but that's just a wild guess :D
Later I noticed that people did 1 mag me very often with flatline or later havoc = two guns I could barely control over 20-30m at that stage while being able to wield 301 much much better. These days basically neither has any recoil if compared to season 7-10.
And now you have people who do 200 with r-99, multiple guns being totally recoil nerfed - spitfire, havoc, devotion, flatline to some extent - because above said. Running r99 in 10m+ range used to be a sign of a bad player...now you are basically a pro.
And I called some bs back in Wingman gods day and year later CEO of Apex himself said that TSM do not play Wingmans because it is high risk high reward or basically if you hit you get a kill, otherwise you 100% dead.
Meanwhile I still remember viral jitter aiming videos with Lou from NRG? aka first person to reach 100k RP in Ranked being Pred nr.1 showcasing how he jitter aims - years later we know that jitter aim is basically a joke and jitter of crosshair is combination of aimbot and slower end PC / earlier version of aimbot script :)
What did EA do during all this time??? No comments.
I still remember when G7 double tap was introduced and I had 3stack in Discord - I asked my 2 teammates at the time who were running mostly 301 and flatline (because of recoil control), why they don't switch to G7 which I was fond of even before double tap -> they said " all pros run these in ranked ". Yet you tune into ALGS and its G7s, 30-30, snipers... with as we later got to know FOV bind that changed in game FOV from whatever to minimum to allow firing single shot weapons even without 3x or higher scopes on...
I mean list goes on and on if you use your brain and spend your time asking such questions.
Well now standard of 1 magging with r99 without basically rage limitations, 0 recoil on every gun, headshoting 50+% is industry standard and people do their best to maintain it :)
I guess EA achieved its goal. Mine is not to play this game more than I would like to / enjoy to = these days up to Platinum ranked where you clearly see how much cheaters are around. Not to mention pubs where biggest issue years ago was some pro 3stack having fun cleaning lobbies, these days idk why but cheaters clean pubs as well and basically are as present as in Platinum + lobbies...Unplayable.
