I think the reason why we blame match-making is just that it is harder to carry in the arena
- missing of armor swap
- In BR, with armor swap and more buildings to play with, you can easily outpace enemy team fighting you and do 1v1->thirst->armor swap
- map design
- So far, DOME is the only arena map that has doors, and non of the map in the rotation has a 2 level building, where you can at least play with the 1st(ground floor) 2nd floor, and the roof. The enemies in the arena map are far easier to predict
- RP system.
- even if you can't carry to 1st in lower ranks, the experience won't be equally frustrating as the arena. You can accept losing the game where you hot drop got 2kills and lost 4rp in gold. In arenas, wiping the full team two times having 6kills and lose? You will be punished harder for your teammate being incompetent. It works similarly in BR Diamond or higher ranks, but not on the rest of 95% of players.
With all that in mind, it just amplifies the players' expectation on having a fair match
@IlllIlIlllIllllMap design is hit or miss, everyone tends to have their own opinions on different maps tbh. I enjoy the KC map currently in rotation but absolutely disdain phase runner and party crasher, maps are always personal preference.
Armor swaps could contribute but they aren't really a pivotal issue here. Yes they can speed up the flow of a fight, but considering that a 3v3 is three separate 1v1s in the same spot (assuming everyone is evenly skilled), shield swaps don't play the role here that they would in BR where third partying and other teams on the map are an issue.
It's really the point of: Why do we have ranks if we aren't playing against teams in our rank? Why am I (G2 arenas, D4 BR) playing diamonds and masters in areans...ever? If I was plat/diamond I'd understand, sometimes the player queues are low. But why am I being punished for simply playing the ranked queue?
The AP system is:
- not explained to users, we're all guessing how much we'll gain or lose from any one game
- skewed because you gain/lose more for winning/losing to a team depending on what rank they are (refer to previous question about why we're even playing people out of 1 skill tier difference) ps: this is worse due to smurfs, you can lose much more AP playing against a "lower skill" fresh install
- not rewarding to players at all. In BR, you can have mediocre placement but it rewards you for KP and gives you a leg to stand on even if you don't have a cohesive team. In Arenas? Nothing for 9 kills, 2000, 3000, 4000 damage just a -12AP (or more) if you lose.
The matchmaking IS the main reason arenas is hurting.
