Re: Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux/Proton available

Hi @MatoruNSG ,

I can confirm that while using Linuxmint, I can play Apex Legends on Steam. This is a bonus added to the Linux communities thanks to the launch of Steam Deck and Epic EAC on Linux being used in the game new patches. Therefore, this is true since 1st March 2022 that Apex Legends can run on Linux and in Steam Deck. (Before this is just hopeless since Epic's code break WINE at some point and causing EAC banning anyone using WINE to run Apex)

I still could not find any Lutris script that I could run the game with Linux, or find any other method running the game outside Steam Play. (This may change since EAC for Linux is now available. However, if we already have a solution in Lutris, please kindly enlight me to the direction.)

And EA / Respawn is unlike to write any official patches / game scripts for Linux to run Apex on Linux natively. Currently, the only way for Linux to run Apex is through WINE.

I am not sure if this has answered you question, but so far this is, or what I believed to be the case, the current situation for Windows games that trying to run on Linux.

    @Smith_Littlewood Thank you! You did answer my question. I just installed it through Steam. The only problem I have so far are lag spikes whenever I walk around a new area on the map/a new asset gets loaded, but this should stop after all items have been loaded once, right?
  • Hi @MatoruNSG ,

    I have to switch off Vsync as I did to Titanfall2 on Linux to remove the lagging at the screen.

    When the game first loaded, I also experienced some lag like it is trying to load something at the start of the drop ship sequence, but then the game run just fine.

    @Smith_Littlewood Thanks once again for the reply.
    I already have Vsync off, but I have seen on reddit it that it might be because Vulkan shaders are getting loaded/compiled for the first time and that just running around the maps and letting everything load should fix the lag. I think this would make sense because on areas I have already been there are only small to no lag spikes at all.
    But thank you anyways, I appreciate any help I can get. :D
  • @DrowsillaThat's cool! A question in regards to the Shader pre-caching setting in Steam:
    What does "Allow background processing of Vulkan shaders" do?
    What situation does background refer to?

    EDIT: I should probably mention that I'm also not into computer graphics, including shaders, I can't even understand simple GLSL shaders for Minecraft.   :P

  • Another quick question: I've seen the launch option

    DXVK_ASYNC=1

    on ProtonDB and reddit, what does it do?
