I can see where you're coming from especially if you haven't played the Titanfall games that Apex Legends universe is set in, but the smart pistol (more so in Titanfall 2) still requires strategy as it has a very limited range and you must maintain crosshairs on the target to establish a lock. I don't really see it any more powerful or unstrategic than the Airstrike type ultimates in-game now if implemented properly.
