Re: Lets Talk About 'Skill-Based Matchmaking'?

@JiboTV This would be so much better then it is right now! At this point if they don’t change it to something like this I have a feeling I’m going to be throwing this game in the garbage just like I did with overwatch.

@DirtybuungI'm sort of in the same boat, I used to come home from work, and play solo, because my friends online don't really enjoy apex legends too much. My experience from playing with randoms is a lot of the time they're pretty toxic or they're in a duo and don't help you at all, that was before match making arrived too.

So i play SOLO like 99% of the time, i'd say i'm pretty competent, i used to do pretty well. Now i'm really struggling to play. Mainly because playing solo you get teammates that instantly leave. Now in the past this wasn't such an issue because there was a chance i wouldn't be facing the very best of the best, 20k kills + players.

So before SBMM if i had bad teammates i could hold my own and carry on having fun. I didn't really care if my teammates instantly left and i'd just carry on, if i face a squad of 3 depending on how good they were i'd either die instantly, or hold my own and do well. Since it isn't my fault i'm alone at this point.

Now, it's different... if they leave instantly, which a lot of the time playing solo, they do because 1. There isn't any punishment, and 2. it's "casual".

So going from being able to hold my own to needing to sweat everytime i play, if my teammates rage quit or leave instantly i'm screwed every single game, going 3v1 against "match making" players of "similar" skill, is not fun, and never will be.

playing casually, should be just that.. if you're not very good at the game it doesn't mean every single match you play is going to be bad. Every game has a learning curve.

Playing solo is literally torture right now and i can't see myself playing for much longer, i don't want to pub stomp, i play solo all the time so the chances of me beating 3 man squads before match making was low anyway, now it's impossible and not fun at all.

There is no variety, playing casually for someone that isn't a GOD TIER player is sometimes fun to be able to feel like they're good by doing well. You can't DO well anymore because the moment you do it sticks you against players that are above your skill that are 3 man squad while you're SOLO and have teammates that rage quit.

People would complain about team mates always sucking before SQMM, i did too.. but i'd rather them suck and have the possibility of enjoying playing solo, than just getting destroyed every single game when my teammates inevitably rage quit.

This makes it seem like a quitting early issue, but this wasn't as bad of an issue before SQMM, in my opinion it shouldn't be in casual.

If you want to play against the best players, or players of equal skill, shouldnt that be in ranked? that's where you should go for a challenge, and to sweat.

when ranked first arrived, i avoided it, because i thought it would be a sweat fest and not enjoyable. When i tried it, from ranks bronze to diamond it wasn't so bad, then going above that it was pretty sweaty so i'd just play casual because i didn't enjoy the type of gameplay ranked was offering.

Now that gameplay is also in unranked... and it's killing the game for me.

Casual should be fun, no F**** given sort of gameplay.

If you have friends that are new to apex legends too, they can't even squad with you, because they will get stomped every single game.

SQMM needs to go, or be tweaked, maybe letting new players go against players levels 20 and below before they go into total random games and once they hit level 21 they are put into normal match making.

  • So As a lower level player my point of view.... I get teamed with HIGHER lever players a lot.  with SBMM and die, and then die, and then die...... I have no chance when I drop and a much better team rips me apart... I feel like SBMM has made this game harder to play. I am a rank of only 50 so when I get my team they all seem to be kinda lower ranks... and then the teams we have to play are like 2500+ kills I mean???? I know I need to get better but its kinda hard to grow skill, and get better when you can not even react and your dead. I feel like the game was way better with out SBMM the lobby was more even, MY K/D has dropped to a 0.22 since SBMM has been put in. I really wish EA would find a way to balance this or remove it again. Because its not helping make the game seem fair at all. I had a lot more fun with stronger team mates with out SBMM, It did not feel like ok I'll just have to stand here and die with this SBMM that is in place. I think EA could really find a better way to balance the game. But I know none of the DEVS will read this so what the point.

Cannot respond to all of this, but I will say that them attempting to straighten out this 'curve' the way they have for new players and existing ones does not seem like a good one. I think people appreciate the curve more than they understand, and there are options that can help them achieve similar goals outside of changing the overall experience of the game. Stagnate is a word a lot of people I know throw around when it comes to how matches feel. I want to clip some particular sentiments I relate to within your post, thanks for responding.

"People would complain about team mates always sucking before SQMM, i did too.. but i'd rather them suck and have the possibility of enjoying playing solo, than just getting destroyed every single game when my teammates inevitably rage quit." I agree in part, I deal less with rage quits but it is like solo queuing at the highest level of ranked if I do.

"If you have friends that are new to apex legends too, they can't even squad with you, because they will get stomped every single game."  Yup, I have explained that in my responses too. It is sad I cannot play with as diverse a friend group anymore, because they feel like they do nothing or get decimated. Carrying is far from possible against a full predator or diamond squad in unranked matches unless they make mistakes and you severely outplay them (As Diego has said.).

Thank you very much for your response. It sounds like you are at the state I mention in my post "You either perform better than you did the last match or die.". Players in a similar situation as you tend to say the game feels stagnate as a result. Some others I know are very good at the game and instead of it feeling stagnate say the difference in team skill is magnified, meaning they feel like they hardly even have a team a lot.

I do hold out hope that the developers or such will read this and develop some insights. I mention elsewhere I have an even greater hope that they will communicate past those insights to offer us players new perspectives and views.

  • Hi my name is Apex from Predator University. It’s not fair that me as a college baseball player have to play against other college teams. I should get to play 5th grade little leaguers because it’s more fair and enjoyable for me.

The argument is "get better at the game" but when a newish casual player, like me, who likes to have fun, and can only play 2 days a week maybe 4 hours max sees 10 diamond and pred trails on drop, you know for a fact you don't have a chance of winning or even being competitive. And as much as the solo queue preds complain about bad teamates and tough games, it's far more likely that I solo queue as a noob and see 3 stack preds & diamonds. The game is supposed to competitive to an extent not a blow out every time.
