Re: Linux Feedback Megathread

@Cubuss Hey there, EA nor Respawn have ever supported linux. This operating system is not used for apex. The only reason it had seen updates is due to steam decks default operating system coming as linux. Now that they can have windows put on them there is no need for linux anymore.

So when you see updates be made it was purely for the steam deck and nothing more. It was not to support that operating system in general but to support steam decks operating system at that time.

@Cubuss Actually they don't support linux at all. Nor have they ever. What they have supported is the operating system at the time steam decks ran on. So that theory is wrong. The support was for steam decks not linux's operating system. Which was never was supposed to be used in the first place with apex.

Keep in mind since the games launch when you go to any website or game provider and look up the games specs since day 1 of apexs launch its always stated and only stated Windows operating system. If they supported linux in any form then the operating system would of been added to all those sites/launchers list of supported OS.

If they didnt "support" linux operating systems why did they have a trello tracker to resolve issues on linux? this sure seem to me they were "supporting" it

@Cubuss Again this is purely to do with steam decks. Not linux in general. Had there been no steam deck there would of been no update at all for that. But, because steam deck at the time could only run Linux its what was used due to that. You will not find 1 single shred of evidence online supporting EA or Respawn openly stating they support linux.

What you will find in apexs 5 years of existence is 1 single trello post that specifically states steam deck and people are reaching for stars because it has the word linux in it. Ignoring the main factor Steam Deck. lol

@E9ine_AC this is besides the point you just trying to argue if EA/Respawn "officialy" supported Linux as a way to play Apex Legends,
The game is designed for Windows yet it runs really bad on it,

Litterly the reason they cut of steamdeck/linux users is cause of cheaters, if the cheaters werent using linux they wouldnt cut off steamdeck / linux support its just a low effort way to solve a problem

@Cubuss Not sure how some can state windows runs bad with apex. When linux users majority of the times are running a virtual machine of windows to cheat in apex legends hiding their linux machines. lol

@E9ine_AC Apex Runs bad On windows in general nothing to do with Virtual machine, The game is literately designed for Windows yet it runs better on Linux.

@Cubuss sorry you had a bad experience. Im at about 12k hours in apex now and always been on windows and hardly ever experience issues. Maybe you had bad settings I dunno but my experience is completely different.

It's great that you've had a good experience, but please do not invalidate those of us who are upset with this change, and the fact that we literally have no way to play this game anymore. Windows isn't an option for some of us unfortunately, for one reason or another, and the game has worked flawlessly for a long time on Linux based OSs.

  • That's just a cop out.  There are way more cheaters on windows, and you can just spectate after you die and tell if someone's on pc and whether they are cheating. Steam deck has the smallest share of players. Banning the smallest group of players and labeling them all cheaters doesn't magically fix the cheating issue.

@E9ine_AC  This post right here proves that you know nothing about what you are talking about. I don't know * about how they cheat, but using a Windows vm on linux is the exact same as using a vm on Windows, so they wouldn't need Linux. Furthermore, the cheaters who use vms would still be able to play the game and cheat, since they're technically playing on windows, not Linux.

"Not sure how some can state windows runs bad with apex. When linux users majority of the times are running a virtual machine of windows to cheat in apex legends hiding their linux machines. lol"

Also, cheaters don't need the game to run well.

@ZutcheyNo, using those OSS (proprietary ones like VMWare or HyperV wouldnt work anyway) VMs on a Windows Host System isn't "exactly" the same as using them on a Linux Host. They lack crucial functionality on a Windows Host which is needed to make those cheats and/or the game work. Otherwise they wouldnt need Linux in the 1st place ...
I wont explain further since it might be seen as advertising such practices.

@r1ggedgame  I don't know how these cheats interact with these vms or other * like that, but what I do know, is that they probably still work. Considering how apex and eac believe they're on windows, they won't get kicked, meaning that the only ones who suffer are regular people like me, who play on Linux, but don't use vms. That's really the main point I was trying to make. @E9ine_AC  was basically making a point against daddy EA, without realizing it, and I just wanted to point it out.

@Zutchey i guess E9ine was referring only to the VM cheats, but there are also native Linux cheats actively used

@r1ggedgameI know, I just kind of found it funny how he himself implies that cheaters won't be affected, only the regular person will suffer the consequences, since the "majority" of cheaters on linux are using vms, and those that are affected, could just use vms, according to him.

@Zutchey I am against linux in this situation. As a linux owner (I have 7 linux machines) I just know, yes they can game or be built to game. Are they regularly used to game by a vast majority of the world? Certainly not.

There is more to cheating than just aim bots and walls. You notice how actual farming bots who afk and randomly shoot not to be kicked for afk are virtually gone now that linux is no more? Cause I sure do. I have 37 videos going on Hong Kong Halloween event and all 37 matches had endless bots physically standing still and randomly shooting. Linux change went in I played for 18 matches same mode same server and did not find 1 single bot in the entire game.

So while you look at cheating from 1 aspect some of us see it from all angles not 1 sided.

On the bright side, Respawn can close all linux bug threads as "not-reproducible" :D

@E9ine_AC The way I look at it, this is just another greedy decision by EA. They don't want to invest into better back-end cheat detection, so they just block linux machines all together. This game has generated over 2 billion in revenue, in part to us Linux gamers who were led on by Respawn, and you're telling me they couldn't have tried something else before this discriminatory change? I've already stated how if this change shows results, I won't be upset anymore, but I'll still be very much disappointed. But there has to be actual data, not just word of mouth from an EA shill. Your words mean nothing considering who you are.

Also, I haven't noticed "how actual farming bots who afk and randomly shoot not to be kicked for afk are virtually gone", entirely due to the reason I've been upset.

It's be interesting to see how ea responds to refund requests of any purchases made in say... the last 6 months. They'll probably refuse but it'll ne very interesting to see it progress through a mis-selling national complaints process.

Normally if a game shuts down you're out of luck, but ea/respawn *choosing* to terminate the contract and remove your access to that content while supporting it for others makes for an interesting angle. They'll hide behind Terms of Service but in most countries those can't overrule misspelling... especially because this won't have been a snap decision - they considered it in advance, while taking your money, and then terminated it.
