Yeah, and the thing is, the first year that I played Overwatch, I bought about $50 to $60 for the boxes, per each event. Much like Apex, I got into the game after it had been around for awhile,so there was a lot of stuff for me to collect, and I was happy to buy some boxes, because I felt they were fairly priced for their drop rates and No duplicate system.
But, like you said, They give you boxes every time you level up. And when an event is going on, every time you level up, you get an event box. Even with that though, I was still happy to buy boxes. Because, again, I thought they were reasonably priced and I liked the system.
Apex though? Holy crap. For just one event, it costs you over $200 the get the Packs and Store exclusives for the event. Now, again, notice that I said I paid about $50 to $60 per Event in OW. So, I had no issue spending money on cosmetics. But, there is a world of difference between $50 an Event (and some playing) to get almost everything and having to spend $200 (with no option to earn in) on an Event.
Apex is just so far removed from what is considered reasonable and fair, that it's laughable. I've spent money in this game, on things I found to be worth it. For example, I bought the battle pass. I even bought Legends, so I could use my tokens to get daily tasks I prefer. I even bought some treasure packs, because I came in part way through the event and wanted to catch up. All I was fine with and don't regret buying. I was happy to do it.
But, there is no way I'm spending $10 or $18 on a single cosmetic for a single event. there is definitely no way that I'm spending over $200, to get everything for a single event. And to think anyone who makes a average living would do so, is simply insanity. Now, yes, I know there's people that have more money than sense, that have no issue spending $200 on an event. But, even if you make six figures a year, I don't know how you could justify spending hundreds of dollars on a single video game, for a single event. That's just madness.
Basically, Apex (read: EA) needs to get in touch with reality, here, and actually start offering these items at reasonable prices. Once they do so, Then I will happily buy some boxes or skins or what have you. But until then, I will never spend money in an event like the one that is going on right now. Plain and simple.
