After reading the article I decided to put it to a test. For the last several weeks or months whichever I keep getting placed with very low level players. Who are lucky to break 100 damage in game. Yet the squads we are facing all have 2K killbadges.
So I started a scrub account and played against other sub 20 level players. At level 10 to 15 I started seeing champion squads with max levels and the 4K kill badges. Now I can compete against people my own skill level and sometimes better. Other times I lose. But I think that this article is a little misleading because how on earth can you bring a rank 10 to 15 into a squad where there are these predators and say there is matchmaking?to be clear on my smurf account I am being humble and not super aggressive. I have my other account that is for that. This was just to test my theory, since on my other account I would consider it aggressive I am constantly lobbied with noobs whether it is casual or ranked.
In all fairness to Respawn I know this is a balance issue. From my perspective there really hasn’t been any matchmaking in the squad lobby, but it sure feels like they are matching opponents based on the strongest squad mate. Which brings us back to solos. What is the point of grouping people like this?
A better solution would be premades have their own lobby and random fill their own lobby.
Jut my two pennies worth.
To add to what I posted here is a random casual game.
sorry about the blurry photos, but you can clearly see my teammates are super aggro type players. Which I am fine with. Also just based on the champion it looks to be a sweaty lobby. Again I am fine with that. But how can you qualify this as skill based matchmaking? Any given stat on my profile is nowhere near the levels these guys had.
for me I kept up in game and it was ok. But if I was truly new to the game this on a regular basis would * me off. And I would be leaving Apex. Again there has to be a balance and IDC what anyone working for Respawn has to say right now because it is clearly missing. Stack a level 18 in a lobby of tryharda fine. Just don’t put out there that you have sbmm. Because clearly you don’t.
- @mastiffslinger If u go and play solo with randoms u will be put into lobbys with super low level ranks and yet u compete against high ranked people who are decent but with ur team being killed in the first fight. But if u go premade lets say u and ur friend are in the lobby with 2k+ kills u will be put in a game who has people with 6k+ kills in almost every squad thats the problem here. Skilled based matchmaking ruined every single game that implemented it and they aint even decent enough to tell us that. There is no point in ranked either bcz everytime i play i get wiped by people who are bronze and im plat rank. That means they do another acc play there with skills of predators and smile all happy when they kill higher rankes. This game doesnt make any sense for months now.
- @mastiffslinger What servers are u playing on?
@MajchiDaFroggoYT If solo one of the 4 Iowa servers. If premade then I switch to my teammates server. Yep
- @MajchiDaFroggoYT respawn really needs to consider going back to whatever they were doing end season 1 beginning season 2 the game's matchmaking was better. Game was way more fun then.
Twitch viewers down to 14k avg streamers are leaving
Whoever is calling the shots at respawn is clueless This skill based match making will be the death of the game. Already have friends that quit playing with me because the lobbies it puts us in is constantly run by 4k damage 20 kill badge gods. I'm good but my friends aren't to my caliber and now I have to feel guilty for draining there experience. Skill public could be a thing but would have to be a seperate game mode. Call it ranked scrimmage. However there is nothing casual about a casual game for me and I dont understand why any game company would reward a player base it doesnt have at the expenses of the returning player base
Those kids look trash bro. Tbh. I get put in lobbies with people that are 23,900 kills. You aint seen nothing yet.

SBMM is the bane of gaming existence. When you first start playing a new online war game, you're going to die a lot. It stands to reason because you're new at the game.
When I played Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault, I died a lot. I mean more than getting kills. So? Why wouldn't I given the fact that I was new at the game?
SBMM is nothing more than holding the hands of noobs so they could have a better experience when just starting to play a game. Unfortunately, this sacrifices their learning experience. How can they improve when they're constantly playing against people with the same skill level? Did you ever learn to play tennis? If you had a decent teacher, he would teach the basics and then play against you. But, unless you play against someone better than you, you never learn how to make better decisions. It's simple logic. SBMM is about making money for game developers and not about better noob experience. We already have to deal with lag compensation from online gaming. Now, we have the choice of who to play with take away. How does that lead to improving your skills?
Anyone know how they actually determine SBMM? Im a new player. Level 5. And my 3rd game ever was in a lobby with multiple predator squads. I was solo as well so I wasn't getting pulked into my high level friends games but it still threw me into matches with insanely high level people with nearly 20k kills.
- @DoomSpartan117 I'm wondering if they turned it off because of all thw whiners.

Can someone listen to this guy?
all pleople saying that SBMM exists... Can you read this? because if you can, you will easily notice that:
1. SBMM does NOT exist in casual games
2. If it does, It is completely wrong made
And the ones saying you learn by playing against predators... Really? you really believe that a level 5 guy learns anything getting lasered by a pro? Dude... they don't even see it coming... most platinum people doesn't...- TheJumpingJawa6 years agoSeasoned Ace

Two possibilities.
Either you got a lot of kills in your early games, or you were unlucky & got dropped into a high SBMM lobby to make up the numbers.
I imagine the latter happens more often at quieter times of the day.
- @mastiffslinger SBMM is great in theory.
What I've noticed though, is that if I'm in a full premade group of 3, it puts us against much tougher opponents. As if it groups by premade first, skill second.
I am on PC though, where aim assist makes an even bigger impact on "skill". So lots of PC controller players can aim really well before they can move really well, or understand the game as well. This makes it hard to determine what kind of opponents I'm actually facing lately...
