Replacing a holstered weapon

So when I have my weapon holstered and I want to replace it with the gun on the ground, WHY doesn't it replace the gun I have "selected" in the HUD, but instead the last one I had in my hand/whatever logic it is?

Would be so much more logical to replace the one that's shown in the hud at the lower right corner.
