I like the idea of anything that could get me into action quicker - but agree, i think it'll be masking some load times.
I also don't think it's possible right now with how the game forms lobbies, simply put it seems to be in this set order:
1. Match make up to 60 people
2. all 60 people pick character
3. show them who they're paired with
4. show the champions squad
5. load them all into drop ship
With that set order even if you sped up part 2 for you, you're still waiting for up to 57 other people who could potentially use the full time allocated to pick their character.
