Shadowfall NEEDS an Update.

Shadowfall needs love.

I love the idea of this game mode, and when it's fun it's fun. But there are far too many problems with the gamemode as is. Here are some solutions to problems.

1st: Penalize people who quit when they're turned into an infected. Quitters make the game practically unplayable. It kills the game when there are only 8 infected but 10 people still alive. I'm usually not for penalizing quitters in casual game modes, but it's mandatory in this game mode as it makes the game unplayable

2nd: Add a ping system to both the infected and the last 10. Or atleast give undead the bloodhound passive. The problem is, it's a big map and MULTIPLE games I'm running around the map just SEARCHING for legends the entirety of the game as they hide. (The red pings do help though when another undead dies)

3rd: (Maybe) Zombies shouldn't trigger traps. (Maybe) certain abilities or champions should be banned from the game mode. (MAYBE) ALL abilities should be banned (but this definitely doesn't sound like the most fun solution). There are too many exploits that make players unreachable/unkillable: Wattson fences(can't shoot them, and with zombies only having 25 health...), places only Pathfinder can access. (yes even with unlimited climbing from the undead). I imagine Octane can exploit the map a bit as well by getting to places others can't, but atleast the zombies can use the jump pad (that being said, Octane could always use it then destroy it). I've yet to see a caustic be as problematic as a Wattson with her fences. There are probably other exploitss I am missing.
A simple solution, give zombies more vertical jump. That way, they can reach those tricky pathfinder spots AND can jump over Wattson fences. As of right now there is no counter play.
IF you fear the undead are too mobile as is, then take away some speed. I personally think the zombies would get slaughtered if they didn't have their current speed.

4th. Make zombie dmg more consistent, and IF it is consistent  atleast make it clear why I can sometimes one shot someone with white shield and other times I can't. I assumed it was because of dmg reduction from a caustic, but that wasn't the case. Maybe a jumping melee does more dmg in this gamemode? Maybe they just had some missing health but full shield when i punched them. I could swear I've been one shot with blue shield, but maybe I was mistaken. I'm aware this may not be an actual issue, or it may be. I'm not sure, it seemed inconsistent to me but I haven't tested it.

5th. Have undead spawn from the center of the map... or program them to spawn closer to the ring. Sometimes the distance is pretty ridiculous. This is compounded when considering that you drop MULTIPLE times a game because you die so easily. Die - dive long distance - finally land- die within 3 seconds. That long distant dive gets noticeable, fast. Just spawn the undead from the center of them map.

I love this game mode, and have been looking forward to it! I see arguments on both sides: Legends have too many exploits, or undead are too strong. Maybe both are true. But I never experience undead ever being too strong because everyone quits as soon as they are dead. Usually the final 10 have about the same amount of players as the undead.

Out of all this, the quitting players are by far biggest negative impact. If the undead had the numbers they are intended to have (or some sort of communication) then may be able to find a solution to some of these exploits by the legends.

  • biggest issue is that ive been one shot with a white shield while i havent one shot a white shield

make the damage right, and code the melee attacks correct please

im tired of my melee attacks sound going off and there never being anytrhing happening

  • @DRrDUBB I think a lot of people accidentally leave when they become shadows. Somehow the 'spacebar = go to leave menu and ALSO counts as 'yes' if you hit it again' method of leaving the game got re-implemented in this mode. It was that way once in the past, and then they changed it to the way it is in normal games now. I've nearly left a few times as a shadow just because space = wall climb/jump/staying alive as a shadow. As such in the few seconds after you die before your hands stop hitting keys to try and keep you alive, you accidentally trigger a 'leave game?' and 'yes' response.

To your 4th point, shadow dmg is consistent, for some reason if someone is at a lower health amount the shadows deal less to them. I saw someone post the exact amounts somewhere, and I'm not sure why a nearly dead player should take less damage from a shadow, but there it is.

5th - ABSOLUTELY seconded. The arbitrary respawn jump points for shadows are sometimes just dumb. I'll spawn on the other side of the map from the ring/player who killed me over half the time, and then if I try to drop back to them my drop speed goes to crap so it takes ages.

Unfortunately, this game mode is HEAVILY imbalanced in pathfinder's favor. When the drop ship comes in he can grapple up into it and then shadows really can't get up there to kill him. There was one game where it was next to a wall and I'd climb up a few feet and try and turn/jump but I'd never get it right. I'd either hit a wing and drop too fast or go to high and land on the wing.

That pic pretty much says it all about pathfinder and this game mode. The only variable I've seen in the matches I've played are how many pathfinders are the winners.
  • My concern for me is when i die i constantly hit spacebar spacebar to skip .. then thats how i quit in a match .. try changing it so that no one will quit the game .. i think no one is really doing it on purpose

  • Pardon? As a legend, it is impossible to escape. It certainly needs an update but not so! When youre a shadow you see all the legends glow red and the legends see the shadows only when they are too close. it should be much easier to escape as a legend. But I am sure that respawn does it with intention. They want the players to continue playing this mode and not get the legendary devotion skin

@donthurtm3 I see you've been playing the new Pathfinderwins mode as someone other than Pathfinder. Please adjust your play style so as to pick Pathfinder at the start of the match and you will find your escape abilities will become 100%

    Thanks for your input!

As much as I hear, and understand the problem with spacebar=quitting, I'm positive the majority of players still quit intentionally, I say this because I play on console where quitting is still a problem. On console you have to consciously PAUSE, down, A, down A.
(That being said, it's still easy to accidentally quit after you die even on console. Pausing and quitting the instant you die is muscle memory when you're playing a solo game mode.)

And yes, consistently inconsistent shadow dmg lol. Just wish it was clear!

How much time have you actually spent on the game mode? Shadow HARDLY win in my experience.
Where the dropship lands is definitely a big variable. If the dropship lands near buildings and cover, and the surviving team has a Wattson it's almost an auto-win for the survivors. If ONE person gets in the drop ship they can literally cover their teammates from outside the building while being invincible in the dropship. Wattson and friends are practically unkillable inside the building. And if the rest are pathfinders (which they usually are) they can just open the door and grapple the dropship easily.
I really don't understand people saying the shadows are too strong, they NEVER win in my experience. They have won 2 or 3 times in all the games I've played (even in games where the majority of the undead don't quit the game!)

On top of the tower in front of repulsor proved difficult for champions to get to.
The other time we won (dropship at artillery) the last few people didn't even attempt to get to the ship.

Survivors win 90% of the games I play. This could be due to all the quitters. But from my experience there are just too many exploits from legend abilities... that combined with minimal teamwork and sticking together it makes it pretty easy to win.

P.S. I also find staying away from the pack can be advantageous if the undead don't notice you. Even with the dropship SWARMING with undead in the last 10 seconds you can easily just throw a jump pad or grapple to the dropship when you're solo.
