Since the removal of helmets, perhaps add "boots"?

From the high paced, movement based FFS it was at the release, I think the game has gone down a path in the wrong direction, fun-wise. Ash's dash really made the game fun again and playing any legend expect Ash now feels terrible tbh.

So just a crazy and not so throught-through idea but wouldn't it be great if they added boots to the loot which gave you different tiers of Ash-dashes, perhaps both in distance and CD. They could even have different kinds of boots like dash, wall run, "tenacity", i.e reduces CC etc etc.

Ofc they had to buff Ash in some other way but I think its a way to fun mechanics to not make a part of the Apex game as a whole.

  • Well, I can certainly say that I've seen other games go down this same motion-addiction road. It didn't end well for Halo and I don't think it will do any better here in Apex. But sure, let's give the people what they want. And then we'll see how it all works out when PC players find a million new ways to abuse it and any semblance of battle legibility goes straight out the window. And the servers, which already can't keep up with the game, just stop working altogether.

In case I was unclear, I vote NO.

  • I respect and understand that opinion and the differences between controller vs m+k as an input is ofc an issue when it comes to these types of things.  But what I dont agree on is that these things would automatically mean that M+K would find ways to "abuse" it.  Abuse is when you find limitations in the game engine or even straight up cheats with input macros. But things like dashes or hypothetically wall-running dont have to work like that. But yeah, its ofc easier to dash past an enemy and turn 180 degress super fast and shoot him with M+K but to call that a loss in "battle legibility" is wrong imo.

And speaking of " battle legibility". What is AA if not just that, i.e the most vital part of a shooter is, to some degree, done automatically, regardless of player inputs hehe (and no, I dont think AA is a problem outside pro level play. It was just a comment on "battle legibility" =) )

Perhaps the word "abuse" was the wrong word. But it's a sore point to be trapped in mixed lobbies with people who can move in ways that not only are unavailable to many of their enemies, but which also look like cheating, pure and simple. Not saying that tap strafing looks like cheating (in the literal sense), but I've lost to people who bounced around like in a pinball machine, and not even off of anything. Just randomly flying through the air and changing direction on a dime multiple times. Real crouching tiger hidden dragon crap. Ludicrous. If what they were doing is within the bounds of game physics then I'll eat my hat. Or maybe a better way to put it is this: if what they're doing IS within the bounds of game physics then there's something else the dev really messed up.

And the subject of battle legibility has always been a sore point for me in this game ever since Respawn used it as the excuse for an early-days pathfinder tactical nerf. To say that he needs a longer cool down in the interest of battle legibility... in a game where some legends throw smoke, some others can literally disappear, and yet one other (Ash) now has a suite of motion abilities that defy any rational explanation... all of this just gets on my nerves in a big way. Engagements are already hard enough to follow and comprehend in this game. More speed, for anyone in any context, is not what this game needs. Imo.

And don't get me started on AA. I'll go on all night! At any rate I certainly don't see it as a legibility issue, though I'm probably misunderstanding you in some way.
