So you can't just adjust slighlty rank points? You always have to do it in extremes?

In terms of it being the only way to rank up, not really.
In terms of multipliers, yes. Kills are worth more based on your placement, making placement matter, but not as much as it did in S17.
I believe the issue was that players were only caring about placement, resulting in a high amount of players ratting to get to a higher rank.
Placement still give you points, so I wouldn't say that it doesn't matter, but the main focus is around getting kills.
