Solve the problem: Caustic + Bunker = Toxic Behaviour

Please Note: Before hand I would like to make it clear that I’m not writing this out of spite or grievance towards anyone specific, nor am I writing this for the sake of complaining. I'm merely offering up my opinion following experiencing a recent bought of toxic behaviour in the hopes to advocate for fairer gameplay. I will however make specific mention of a certain technique some campers exploit for easy kills along with instances of where toxic behaviour has been exhibited post instance. None of what I say is a slight against Caustic mains or Caustic gameplay in general.

Entering Season 5, I have found it all to be pretty entertaining. The new map features on King's Canyon are interesting and overall I feel they are welcomed changes when it comes to finding new ways to play the game.

However one issue remains ever present in the world of Apex Legends.

That issue being Caustic users exploiting the small rooms inside Bunker to trap and kill players.

Since returning to King’s Canyon, I have noticed a resurgence in players camping inside Bunker as Caustic. Placing down gas traps to trap others inside the small rooms with no ability for the unaware players to escape.

Through doing this, these Caustic players are essentially granted a “free kill” with next to no effort so-to-speak. As there are no way in which the trapped player can escape, it essentially guarantees the unfair advantage the Caustic user has.

I genuinely feel that very minor and simple changes, if made, could greatly benefit this area of the map and would prevent players exploiting this… well let’s be honest… pretty trashy gameplay tactic in order to obtain “free kills”.

Therefore I would like to appeal to the Apex Legends team to remove the possibility of this exploit happening in the game entirely.

Now I am not looking to see a character like Caustic get “nerfed” in any way! He’s fun, and I have no complaints there.

Nor am I suggesting taking away the ability for legends to climb doors.

I merely ask that very minor environmental changes be made to Bunker prevent players taking advantage of this specific deplorable tactic.

Such alterations could come in the form of:

1 - Place a hard object above the doors in Bunker specifically, preventing players from being able to perch themselves on top of them. Removing their opportunity to camp.

2 - Make the glass panels/ windows to those rooms destructible in order to give the victim of the camper an opportunity to escape.

3 - Remove the walls separating these smaller rooms, thereby creating a singular large room with multiple ways in and out, reducing the ability to full trap a player inside for a guaranteed elimination.

4 - Add more unbreakable glass panels/ windows to the rooms above the doors, giving players an opportunity to see if someone is camping above the door.

All of which are pretty simple or minor changes that won’t drastically effect the overall area, but it would allow fairer gameplay to take place.

Consider it environmental balancing.

With Caustic having an unfair advantage in that situation, such changes would at least give the trapped player a fighting chance against the camper.

Sure, let a player place down as many traps as they want to in Bunker, but at least level the playing field for those falling victim to campers.

Especially when some of those campers exhibit truly toxic behaviour.

Following my most recent experience of being killed by this lowly tactic, I decided to call out the player for camping.

I wasn’t sore about it, merely questioning them as to why they felt the need to play like that?

This then resulted in my inbox being met with an onslaught of hatred and vulgar language from the player doing the camping.

Playing as Caustic aside, they were quite literally one of the most toxic players I have ever met in this game.

So much so they even threatened me saying they would get me banned, claiming they were going to upload a clip of them killing me via this exploit to youtube in order to tell their youtube channel subscribers and viewers to report me also.

I know... I very pleasant player, right?

And of course this is not the first occurrence of such unwarranted vulgarity in this game. Back in seasons 1 and 2, I had a total of three different Caustic users contact me out of the blue to tell me how “bad at that game” I was and brag about killing me after they used this method to wipe me and my squad.

Furthermore, I have read numerous threads, posts and feedback stating how other players have experienced similar toxicity from other Caustic users having pulled the same sad move.

Even at the time of writing this I was discussing this issue with a few in-game friends, all of whom claim to have fell victim to the same camping method multiple times since the start of the new season.

So it is clearly proving to be a problem once again.

So please Respawn & EA, consider making a change to allow this game to be played more fairly. Caustic is fine, but this toxicity isn't.

  • @dtOddity92 Sure it can be annoying but, isn't it fun to find a camper and slaughter them at their own game?

If you are dying/getting trapped in the bunker more than you notice then I would advise to just stay away from it. Also, as far as people messaging you goes, just block messages from everyone but people on your friends list.
  • @dtOddity92 Lol no you can see Caustics feet through the window, don't get get greedy and baited. Its an ineffective strategy thats easily countered by throwing a grenade inside to check.

Also no Caustic ever does this strat cause its an effective strategy to win games or boost your statistics, on the contrary we don't care and just go for the memes.

@MoNosDirtyGaming True. It is entertaining to beat someone by turning their tactics against them. However like I said, such tactics are very heavily weighted towards the camper. Especially if a player falling victim to it is unaware of the exploit.
The point I raise is to merely suggest levelling the playing field.
Sure give Caustic the ability to trap players, but objectively speaking, don’t allow it to be unfair to the extent that it’s a guaranteed kill.

As for messages, don’t worry. I’m not childishly reacting in the same vain as those sending idle threats. I report them and wash my hands of them. I was just remarking upon there commonality between toxic behaviour in-game and toxic players attitudes.

@BigBlackCaustic Yes it’s true that you can find a camper, but it’s only true when you’re looking for one.
Especially if you’re coming from the direction heading down the stairs.
My point is that not everyone can see or would even know to look for Caustic’s feet, dictated either by situation or by player knowledge.

As for lures? Greedy and baited never came into it for me.
My team had control of the top of Bunker for at least three minutes after taking refuge from a firefight and getting fifth partied. Then when the enemy squad rushed us I simply slipped down the stairs and sidled into a room to heal and that’s when I got trapped.
We were covering the stairs the entire time and no-one came in from the lower level.
Which meant that the Caustic was there for a LONG time.
So sure I could’ve thrown a grenade in there to check, but after so long, no movement noise and there being no loot in the place, there was no real reason to do so.
Plus when getting attacked and are only two kills away from achieving a twenty kill badge, I must admit my mind wasn’t exactly on someone else’s feet.

Look, I get that it can be fun for some. I myself love playing as Caustic and gassing enemies after knocking them or playing defensively.
However overall and for the sake of fair play in a game that is focused around equal opportunities for all players, I’d say that by denying any said player the opportunity to evade what is essentially just a trolling tactic, is something that should be revised.
Again I’m not looking to see a great character get nerfed.
I would just like to see less instances of such lowly kinds of camping.
