Some thoughts on the vaults.

So my main problem with the vaults is that it opposes one basic foundation of a BR which is the high risk-high reward principle. The probability of getting top tier loot should directly correlate to the risks you take (dropping in high loot areas and winning fights). The vaults on the other hand is a room full of the very best items in the game and its all yours for very low risk/cost; all you have to do is to shoot the right bot which frankly isnt even rare. When carrying the key, you can even see if the if its still locked, so you dont even have to risk running into another team who just looted the same vault  want and you wont have risk a detour to an empty vault.

So here is my suggestions how to make the vault make more sense in context of the game. All these suggestion would ofc work independently and most would also work in combination with each other.

  • Make the key rarer. Simple.
  • Nerf the loot in the vault. Also simple. Maybe just change the high tier loot for some "ordinary" loot, like ammo, heals, weapons etc
  • Make it so ALL players can see when someone got a key and also which vaults are still unlocked. This will increase the chance of getting ambushed when running to the vault = more risk.
  • Make a specific audio announcement in the arena speakers whenever someone unlocks a vault. Like "The vault at Lava city has been breached".
  • Make it so the players with the key no longer can see which vaults are looted. This would make it a risk to run to one if its already looted.
  • Make it so the key only drops during a certain color of the drop bot, for instance red. This color should last less time than the other + not in a pre-programmed order + it should ONLY      contain the key and nothing more, because its kinda sick you can get both the key and other goodies in the same bot.

  • @Babbediboopi What? Shooting a cargo bot is already high risk cause everyone in the vicinity hears it. Try and shoot one in Capitol City, Skyhook, Train Yard... I’ve literally seen ppl stop fighting because they already saw that there was a vault key in it and start chasing the person/team who ran straight to a vault.

On the other hand sometimes I just use that thing as bait. If I see it and know ppl are around I just wait till one shoots so that I know their actual position, get closer till they either shoot the loot bag again or punch it and ambush them.

Vaults themselves are definitely okay. Most of the time there’s at least 2 legendaries, BUT I’ve seen vaults with nothing but epics as well. With that said, ppl are camping near vaults. It hasn’t happend much lately but ppl are actually waiting in the caverns for ppl to open up the vaults cause they know ppl will go towards them. If that isn’t high risk what is.

All your suggestions I’m agreeing with. If I have to deal with all the above variables, I don’t wanna see that the vault is already open or has sucky loot.

Ok maybe we have different experiences from our games or maybe have I been just lucky. Out of the all the vaults that Ive looted lately, I would say 90% was totally unchallenged and rather risk free. I had ofc win the initial fight at the location I dropped but thats normal and isnt really connected to the risk of  vaults. I just got the key during or after the initial fight and afterwards  ran to the nearest vault and got myself a Golden armor among other goodies.

I maybe had to fight a squad  for a vault once or twice which rather was a coincidence when two teams with keys happened to run towards the same unlocked vaults, but even then I think the risk of fighting one squad isnt enough to justify all the goodies thats usually in a vault (unless you are unlucky and get those "bad" vaults you mentioned =)

And I agree with you that ALL of those suggestions wouldnt work together. That would have been a little to much risk hehe =)

@Babbediboopi I’m definitely unlucky. No doubt about that. But I know at least in the beginning of being able to activate vaults that ppl were camping just to take others out. Either I’m in lobbies where ppl still have that mindset or your lobbies are just less ambush-y xD.

Your situation of 2 squads both with vault keys going to same vault I only had once XD. While looting them found another key and was like ‘ha! Another one’. But it’s usually just a squad that waits till the doors open or comes in after us. I always open the vaults looking back, because I know the moment I turn around some random arc star of thermite grenade comes flying in! Greedy ppl!
