Storm Point is the worst pubs map in existence.

I have given this map a fair amount of time. I think it looks nice, has some cool POIs, but overall I never really want to play it again in pubs. In the time spanning around 100 games, mostly short ones or else I just back out/suffer 20m loss of life, I have won a single game compared to 20 on WE, all with randoms in pubs. You can't make this up. And it's not for a lack of trying.

I just notched my 600th win a bit ago, and I barely want to turn the game on when SP is in rotation. I almost never do except with a morbid curiosity at how bad the next game could be. "Fragment" is a much better map than Storm Point, mostly because people know where to go, have fewer options, and the drastically less vertical terrain is more equal for various legends.

The fact we are forced to play SP in rotation for hours makes me want to curl up and die. But the fact remains: WE actually is a great map that you can win quite easily with randoms if you land AROUND fragment and then go from there. Don't land in fragment unless your team is great. The idea they could possibly make this map more like SP horrifies me if it goes into the bin next season. SP was supposed to be the epitome of their map design. I find it a stunning point of contention on the devs' actual ability to understand data and design maps for pub play. It might suffice in ranked with premades, but it still has issues with AI, legend balance, verticality, and too much open ground in the water.

These games are the longest, most boring games I have ever played in my life on Apex. Outside of a very few great experiences on it, 90% of my time is spent doing nothing, with teammates who can barely break 100 damage before they do something stupid because they have no patience. And when this happens it leaves me alone, and like I said this map is purely a waste of your time alone. The probability that you can 1v3 a last squad by yourself on this map is probably the worst out of any map by a comfy margin. Nearly impossible with all the open ground and easily barricaded areas.

End game positions leave so much open terrain and far too many areas where an entire squad is basically safe until the last second when the circle converges. And at that point you have ZERO chance of winning against even a half-competent squad. So if both teammates go down, it's time to leave. Immediately. Unless you love wasting your life in this game. If one goes down, it's almost ALWAYS in your best interest to leave the game if you value winning. I have around a 10% winrate this season in solo pubs, so as I said it's not for a lack of trying.

The fact we have been forced to play this map and will be forced to play it again next season makes me want to weep into a garbage case before I jump in and go to sleep so I can dream up a better game. Storm Point is an awful map. The end.

  • @Khronikos Odd I have the exact opposite situation. I've gotten the most wins in forever on stormpoint, I hate worlds edge for me it's my least favorite map. Everyone wants to land fragment and tour teammates are hardly willing to land anywhere else which leaves me either instantly sent to the lobby or utterly alone cause teammates leave instantly when knocked.

I have little trouble finding fights and the only problem I have is either teammates refusing to do the smart thing (which happens on any map) or a third party comes along.

Stormpoint for me is a great map and my favorite.
  • @Khronikos Storm Point is by no means an awful map. It needs some fixes for sure i.e Gravity Cannons should give you an option which direction to go, Prowlers need to go etc.

It does also need more rocks etc. for cover in the open but the biggest single thing wrong with the map is the size. It's cool in ranked but absolutely horrid in pubs. Especially in duos. It feels like a walking simulator most of the time.

If you don't land Antenna, Barometer or Command Center you will not see anyone.

These are a few of the problems. Also, the loot pool is ridiculously awful in most areas. Other than that I disagree it is not a horrible map. It has good aesthetics and literally nothing else. I admire some of the vertical nature of the map, but it also makes half the legends essentially useless.

The buildings are also stupidly obtuse and hard to get into at times when locked down. I honestly don't know how anybody would describe this as a good map. It has everything that everybody pretty much hates about Apex at least in pubs.
