Yeah that wouldn't be that bad to doo IMO, if the banner animation still exists for when you pick it from the deathbox it would seem fair.
The animation has it's purpose of course, being able to loot without picking it up would help out a lot.
Though then again this creates the scenario of players being able to loot dead teammates and just not pick up their banner.
Of course that isn't allowed behaviour, though it does open the chance for them to do that.
Of course I had no intention of suggesting the animation should go away. Certainly the problem of being able to loot dead teammates and just NOT pick up their banner is pretty awful but that would certainly be something to think about / discuss.
- @N19htf0x I fell like after you loot your teammate you should still have the burden of the picking up animation, the banner should auto pick up as soon as you go into the death box, but only show the animation once you leave it. The only way I see it not doing the animation is picking up the banner in the Deathbox with a hold the pick up button requirement. That way it slows you both ways, and fixes the need for a shield swap.
The banner animation definitely needs to stay. There just needs to be a viable way to shield swap around it in a pinch.
That does open up the problem that XHelperZ mentioned where someone would be able to loot their teammate's box
without getting their card and that won't be healthy for the game, esp for solo queuers.
Automantically taking it and doing the animation after you leave the deathbox could be a potential solution but would
absolutely require playtesting. Even if you get the swap, in a firefight where you need the swap that animation could
still get you killed when you could have clutched it up had it been an enemy box. The automatic banner retrieval there
could really hurt you.
Whatever solution you come up with, it has to be something that balances an ability to shield swap in a pinch withoutdoing the animation, but also does the animation when you pick up the banner and forces you to pick up the banner
before taking anything from your teammate's box that isn't for an emergency need.
"Emergency need" is also much harder to determine than you would think at first glance. Say you don't need a shield
swap, you need ammo for your gun, or maybe a different gun to replace it altogether, or a heat shield because you justwiped the squad that killed your teammate but you're outside zone and need to pop the shield to safely get your teammate's
banner and heal up before making your way back to the ring.
Its a bit of a contradictory problem but I'm hoping there's a solution because the present system means you can't swap on
a dead teammate.- @N19htf0x A possible solution is bringing in a feature from the mobile version of apex. This feature would be auto loot, a screen, showing a death box’s contents would pop up, and auto loot stuff you need, using the same apex mobile AI. This of course could be disabled in settings, or possible bound to a button, or key.
