@LikeSc00b Its too loud and audible after death but you can barely hear it during the match. The sounds seem to be muffled during the match and unmuffled after you die.
I sometimes wonder if its the work of cheaters as the more the cheating problem gets out of hand, the more audio issues there are, but who knows. It would make sense to be a result of cheating, because if a cheater can stop you from hearing them, it makes killing you way easier. Although, the audio engine is awful, so there's that as well. The low tick servers also don't help either.
From S0 to around S8 or so, I was able to have my PC volume at around 30% as it was loud enough to hear the game, then around S10, it had to be around 40%, and since then I have to have it around 50%. My settings aren't being changed, drivers are updated, and I've gotten a brand new headset that works awesome with everything else, so how can it be that Apex requires the volume to be turned up more other than it having an awful audio engine that gets further affected by other sources like server tick and possibly by cheaters? Also keep in mind that I've asked friends and randoms before if they heard any audio, and their response was the same as mine: no.
Respawn has also said at one point that when they looked into the audio problem, "there was nothing they could do". I wonder if its because it was working just fine and they had no idea why it wasn't, or if they didn't have the time to import it to a newer sound engine. Regardless, Apex is near impossible to play when cheaters are running rampant and the audio doesn't work most of the time.
