@dtOddity92 I have nearly 30,000 kills on xbox. I'm debating quitting currently because of the direction they went with this event. It's just depressing.
- 6 years ago@sF_DemonicTim To expand a bit further on what I said, everyone keeps saying it's only one event or it's only 200 dollars. If they do this every season it would be 800 dollars a year. They advertise the skins, and hype these skins up to where everyone feels like they need every single one. I dont feel like I need them, but I was extremely disappointed when I saw how to "earn" them. I'm just gonna chill out on World of Warcraft until these guys get their souls back from the devil.
- 6 years ago@sF_DemonicTim Firstly, congratulations on the 30,000 or so kills. I'm a pretty casual player so I'm probably only around a tenth of that so far.
However I don't think the game should be labeled as a write off simply because of their choice of monetisation this time around.
With this latest event, it's difficult to contest the fact that Respawn has presented exactly what people had been asking for.
Since the game was released, a percentage of the community wanted a single player mode and before that a ranked mode.
Those less inclined to focus on competitive gameplay wanted cosmetics. And of course there have always been those who want the games core mechanics to be refined as time goes on.
The Iron Crown update cemented evidence to say Respawn want to provide players with the content they ask for.
So I don't think you should quit over what is likely (but not confirmed to be) EA's meddling in the form of inflated monetisation.
If we have concerns with how things are being presented to us, then we have the right to voice the and we need to talk about them with the developers and publishers. If we don't things won't improve.
So quitting won't solve anything.
Arguably overpriced cosmetics are absolutely not necessities in Apex Legends, so if you enjoy playing a game you are clearly good at, then why quit. If you quit, you won't be around to see if things change for the better. You just have to bare in mind that changes come over time though.
But as you wait for them there certainly isn't anything stopping you exploring other IPs. - 6 years ago@sF_DemonicTim grats man, yeah same here with dt only 1/10 of that. Im happy to get the 2k damage badge recently, something me and my friends compete on.
I guess we've fleshed out the matter extensively enough. I wish a lot of people both from the APEX team and other players read up on it. I would like to make a list of things I would like to happen:
1. That EA/Respawn respond to this and not just brush it aside. It doesn't have to be a change of mechanic to the current event-- what's done is done and I'm sure there's at least some players who didn't mind and actively participated (by buying or grinding) let them have the rewards and exclusivity that was implied.
2. That they improve the shop in general, this has been feedback from awhile back and it could have been a better way to monetize.
3. That they model future events similar to the first "hunt" event where there are grind rewards with tangible (not blocked by a gamble/RNG mechanic) rewards AND paid rewards. If they plan on keeping the gamble/RNG mechanic, as scammy as it may be-- at least provide players with other means to obtain cosmetics (even if these cosmetics aren't the same based on the means to obtain them).
I think that this is a good compromise and I hope that in the coming week or so we get some feedback from the team.- 6 years ago@Sarsicool It most likely will be a case of the developers responding to the community post event. Offering a round of reactions.
My guess is, they haven’t responded to the community now due to the mixed bag of controversy. A lot of people aren’t going about critiquing the problems in the right way, often cursing the content and the company. Responding to that as it comes probably just results in giving those hateful few something else for them to receive criticism for.
As you rightly say though, a major thing the community wants to see is the developers chime in on what is going on. Let’s just hope they don’t dismiss what’s been concerning the players.
Your third point is particularly good btw, it really highlights the need for refining the sense of player commitment to participating in the events that are offered up. It’d be nice to see the grind be more fun and less about exclusivity.
