It costs EA/Respawn money to provide server capacity, thus players who play but don't pay are a liability to their bottom line.
That's unfortunately not how F2P games work. They love free players, because the more free players a game has, the more whales it will attract. Whales don't spend a ton of money on a small or dying game.

@nooblet123 I think what @TheJumpingJawa was trying to remark upon is the idea that some have where when people are playing a game and not spending money on it then the developers will think there’s a flaw in their marketing.
EA: “They’re playing but not paying? Why not? We should try something else.”
Plus if you were Respawn and your game has players who when asked aren’t happy with the value of the rewards for spending money then it does to some extent highlight that what they’re doing isn’t 100% beneficial in the way they expect. By playing but not spending you could argue it encourages the developers to have a greater focus on the core aspect of the game over inessential things like cosmetics.
Developers and publishers (if they have any common sense) must at least consider this. So it only makes sense that some players think it matters too.
You are also right however, more players means more views and more views means more interest in their IP, which ultimately amounts to higher profit margins. That’ll never change.
