The Pros and (Mostly) Bads of Iron Crown

So, I played around with the event after its launch. The solo mode is fun and something I was hoping they would add. Honestly, I hope they make it permanent. However, there are some things that just don't sit well with me and I think some of you reading this will know what I mean. Just to be clear, I'll go ahead and give a run down of what I think the pros and bads of this event are.

Pros:

  • Solo mode is great. Can get aggravating overtime, but it's a fresh take on the game that I see myself playing with until the end of the event.
  • The event items being showcased are top notch. Some I really like, others not so much. But, a lot of effort was put into this event's cosmetics compared to Legendary Hunt.

Bads:

  • Footstep sound is an even bigger issue in Solo. Bad enough you can barely differentiate between allies and enemies in normal modes, it's nearly impossible in Solo to get a good drop on somebody without them hearing you from 30 meters away.
  • The blatant monetization of the event items is just ridiculous. Why they couldn't just cycle everything through the item shop like they did with the Legendary Hunt set is beyond me. The fact that you can't even use your crafting material, which takes a butt ton of money to farm up as it is, to buy any of these items is outrageous. I was going to burn the crafting material I had saved up from both Apex Packs and the battle pass to snag the War Machine Pathfinder, but it turns out I can't do that. This whole system was arranged to take advantage of the 1% and that's just wrong.
  • Not only are the prices dangerously high, they only give you two event packs and only a few drops of Crowns for free. They have made it virtually impossible to get anything you might want without paying for it.

In short, the game mode is nice and all, but the event shop really kind of sours the whole event, like it makes you feel that the shop itself was the whole point of this event and not the anticipated Solo mode. I know using Fortnite as a comparison is becoming a tiresome argument, but there's no denying the fact that it has one of the most consumer-friendly microtransaction systems out there; one form of currency, multiple ways to earn it without paying, NO loot boxes. Why EA can't just follow the same formula that Epic has for Fortnite only proves EA's level of predatory greed.

From now on, EA, just give us an event pass. I would much rather grind through two separate battle passes at the same time than deal with your "surprise mechanics".

(Seriously? You have cahns word-filtered? Give me a break.)
