Trios VS Ranked - how are they meant to distinguish?
Trios VS Ranked
Hi,
it would be nice to get some clear words about how Ranked is meant to distinguish from Trios.
As both modes have a skill based matchmaking of a different kind. And the result feels like just two ranked modes in diffrent leagues.
I want to share some experiences with it and share some ideas to improve it.
palying solo in
- Ranked: I don't play much solo ranked, and as a result the enemy players are on average not as skilled - but you can face very skilled players which stomp you like in Trios.
- Trios: Even dropping to the same location on the map is a challange. Often hot drops and early deaths. But when surviving the first minutes pretty much like ranked on a higher average skill level.
with pre mades
- Ranked: Not really a change to solo - so the average skill level is below my Trios experience
- Trios:
- a) 2 player smiliar skilled - it's feels harder then solo somehow - a win every 2 days currently - last season we got more like one win every evening
- b) 2 or 3 players with a bigger skill / playtime gap - you get stomped a LOT - maybe a win in 10 day playing or worse
So we started to play ranked if we played together in squad with a big skill gap - (and only then to not rank up as much - because we would pull the low level player up the ranks -
and make his time not enjoyable)
It does not feel like this is the intention of the developers.
I like the idea of a ranked mode.
I like the idea of seperating casual players from the hardcore fraction playing every day.
But not how it's currently setup in game.
Some idea to improve it:
There should be a beginner pool for Trios/ Duos limited by absolute play time or player level.
Trios (or all unranked) should be random - no skilled based matchmaking at all - with the exception of the (beginner pool ).
This is at least the very nature of the battle royal idea - and was used in most games for several years.
BUT kills of a player (or squad) in the current round should be somehow visible to enemy players - (before they start shooting! not like the evo armor color)
To give less skilled players a chance to outsmart the enemy squad be attaking in a more tactical way. (< maybe not for ranked)
Maybe add the same penalties for leaving early in trios, because this is currently the seperating thing between Ranked an Trios.
Or add a Solo queue as this might remove the solo "Leeroy Jenkins" from the Trios queue.
Currently it's really hard to introduce friends to Apex and Battle Royale as they get stomped so much, when playing in a premade.
- random just might be more fair to them.
