Doublelift, a famous Leage of legends streamer and ex-pro, confirmed on his stream that Lol ranked used at least three different sorting algoritms for the ranked matchmaking:
1) normal, which prioritized players with no ELO vs rank irregularities to be matched with each other
2) "recovery", which prioritized players that once had a much higher ELO than his current rank to be matched with each other
3) smurfs, which prioritized players that obviously was playing on smurf accounts to be matched with each other
Just speculations but perhaps is Apex using something similar. Perhaps are players that previously reached platinum matched together regardless of what rank they currently play in beween bronze and gold. This would validate the bronze-to-gold lobbies from a competitive fairness pov and also explain why bronze-gold lobbies are even sweatier than some platinum lobbies....
Guess this is easily examined by creating a brand-new account and purposely play badly, like just hipfire spray and go <1 KD.. If you play like this through the entire Rookie and bronze ranks and still get very bad opponent in Silver, than I think its safe to say that there in fact are several rank queues. Perhaps I will do this by playing with controller as a M+K player. I will legit be a <1 KD player then =)

Well, it does make sense if we assume that all players who once reached like Platinum or higher, i.e players considered "high" elo, are matched vs each other in the same bronze-to-gold lobbies, regardless of what rank they currently are reset to. This system would a) keep former or current high elo players out of "true" bronze-gold lobbies and b) make the game more grindable = better player retention, which I think is the main purpose of the soft resets for better or worse.
Such system would ofc be a bit unfair to hardstuck plats since they will be among the worst players in most their lobbies

If I was a diamond ranked player, I wouldn't be complaining, but I am only a plat player, so I'm complaining that I'm "hardstuck" gold with this guy.
- Palette24carats3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Balladalidila So it doesnt make sense, because they don't get in the same lobbies at the same time... because some skip a split they start lower with lower skill players and others start playing later in the split which means they play against lower skilled players that spent dozens of hours grinding only to get destroyed by the newly arrived highly skilled players or their rank smurfs.
It also doesnt make sense to call it : "play against similarly skilled players" when ALL higher skilled players can demote to Bronze 4 for not playing rank for a while and when all and any of the highest skilled streamers can openly do Bronze to Master challenges on a SMURF live online annihilating lobbies after lobbies and winning every game or like 80% of the games totally disrespecting every lower skill player there is.
Pros were right in one sentence: "Rank is not what it should be".
