Advice on Legends and Team-Comps.

So first off, Apex Legends is my VERY first FPS game. I'm not great yet, but I've been really trying to improve. I got myself to Plat 4 this season, mainly by playing Caustic and Wattson. I noticed while I was in Gold most of the players that I played with had a defensive play-style (that's why Caustic and Wattson worked so well)... but now that I'm in Plat my teams push push push and are super aggressive. They don't want me playing Wattson or Caustic, so I was wondering what I should do? Is there a "aggro" legend that I should learn? I know Wraith is usually always taken, when I've tried to pick her I've had a lot of people rage/grief because I only have like 291 kills on her and most people have been playing her since the beginning and have a lot more.. I know a simple solution would be to go on the Discord groups and get a team that way, but honestly I don't want to feel like I find 2 other good people and get carried or something. I'm trying to get as high of a rank as I can by myself so that I can be confident that I'm a "decent" player (since this is my first FPS) before I go and find a team to play with. Thanks in advance!

  • Thank you everyone for the advice, I really appreciate it!

    Since reading what you all had to say I have experimented with a few different legends that were suggested and also tried to find out areas that I need to improve in. This is what I came to the conclusion of;

    Lifeline's passive fast heal is actually so amazing, I found myself healing up SUPER fast and getting back into the fights - although I'm not a huge fan of her ult that's a beacon to the entire map of where your team is (unless the ring is in a open field to use as cover).

    Mirage is really fun to play, but at the same time I need to improve my bamboozling. I feel like he can be super confusing and deadly in the right hands, but currently, those hands aren't mine... but I'm working on it!

    Wattson has always been one of my favorite legends, and I have tried the more aggressive approach with her - it's worked quite a bit. The fast fencing like @1ronKeys said has given me enough time to turn around a rushing team. And using her ult as a split second cover has saved me a few times.

    Wraith I just need to get better at knowing where/when to portal.

    Those are the Legends that I will be playing and trying to improve on. Depending on who my team picks I'll still be playing one of the Legends above.

    Again I really appreciate the advice guys 🙂

Although pathfinders graple nerf would put him last on that list. Those legends along with mirage, Bangalore, and loba are characters that are good if you just want to watch out for yourself. But the 1st 4 legends I mentioned would be the most aggressive. If your looking for team play the legends are probably crypto, lifeline, caustic, Gibraltar.

    Crypto goes well with pathfinder and wraith. Crypto uses emp while path or wraith use their ults for crypto so he can catch up to the fight

    Bangalore and bloodhound since Bangalore can smoke the enemies and bloodhounds ult can let him see through smoke

    Caustic and Gibraltar. Caustic can throw nox gas in Gibby dome so enemies can't just walk in. Caustic also goes well with pathfinder. Paths passive makes it so you can step up defences in advance. This can apply with Watson too.

    Lifeline can actually be pretty aggressive cus of her fast heal passive. You can get back into a fight faster. So if you play lifeline aggressive you need to get out of the mindset that your a support and be an offensive character.

    Other than that good gameplay comes mostly from positioning, movement, unexpected angles, and aim. There are tons of youtube vids about that.

  • @HimeskiCan't really tell you which Legend you should play, I can only suggest (since you're in plat) to head into pubs and the firing range to experiment a bit. Find a couple of characters that suit your playstyle. All of the abilities in Apex have been made so that they're not had to learn, but it's only after playing around that you really learn a Legends potential.

    Of course, if you would like any in-depth or general tips on specific Legends, the lads on these forums would be more than happy to help you out.

    I can always appreciate a post from someone who reaches out to learn and improve for this game, so good luck on your endeavor you Legend.

    P.S. NEVER feel bad about "taking someone's Legend", their name isn't written on that character, and if they can only play one character then they are a terrible player.

  • @Himeski Mute anyone that mentions your stats or complains about your legend choice. It'll only hurt your play to listen to them and they'll focus on the game when they realise you aren't listening.

    Most legends can be played aggressively (including Caustic) it just depends on your how comfortable you are with them

    I'd recommend trying Revenant, Lifeline, or Bloodhound depending on your play style.

    Harasser = Lifeline

    Aggressive/Defensive Attacker = Bloodhound

    Aggressive = Revenant

  • Just theorising but...

    If you get on with Wattson maybe stick with her. Personally I used Wattson quite aggressively. I'm a mixed player, I like to be calculated but aggressive. Maybe if your playstyle is suited to defensive, maybe you need to find a team that can work with.

    I use her traps more as distractions or herding devices, or if pushed I'll split second slap one as I leave a doorway it'll fizz someone chasing me and I'll get 'em.

    Also I've made clutch plays with her by slapping her ultimate down as cover. Can be the subtle moments it gives you that makes the difference.

  • Bloodhound can be good...

    His scan in a way lends itself to a calculated attacks along with his ultimate that gives you tracking.

    With it also boosting your movement speed it could do well to allow you to play aggro but with more focus/deliberation as you have a headsup on the opponent.

    Good luck either way... let us know how you get on!

  • One more...

    Mirage can be a wholeeeeee lot of fun. His decoys can work in a defensively aggressive manner... or defensively whilst being aggressive...

    They give you a bit of cover, and if you bamboozle the foozles, it gives you an advantage in attack, just like setting up defenses.

    Plus, his cloaked-revive can be very useful in regards to teamplay.

  • @HimeskiNothing wrong with a good defensive character in higher lobbies to fall back to if the push isn't successful and I wouldn't worry about your skill being on par with your team unless you want to play professionally. I know I would prefer a team mate I can have a laugh with which usually yields better results than a sweat screaming down the mic like it's a fulltime job. Have fun!
