Advice wanted for pc specs for playing Apex

While I normally play on switch, I have the chance to buy a new gaming pc and I'm wondering which pc would be optimal for playing the game. The two I'm looking at have Intel i9 and rtx 4080 super, and the other one us an i9 with a rtx 4070 (I think also super).

The reason I'm asking is the 4070 is a whole $1,000 cheaper. Will the game play that much better on a pc with the next step up for the graphics card or is it not worth shelling out another grand just for a higher graphics card?

I'm planning to use the pc to play Apex Legends and maybe some other games I discover down the road. I also plan to learn Unity and take some video game programming classes, and maybe make some YouTube videos and livestreams and stuff. So, I'm just looking for some advice.

I suppose if the computer can render Apex Legends correctly and without lag that it would probably be good enough to serve any other purpose I might need it for.

Any help or advice you guys have would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

The best advice I can give here is buy a brand spanking new PC do not I repeat do not buy a used PC.

The reason for this is you do not know what has been installed on it before or if it has a ban on it and it would be awful to buy a used PC only to login and then get banned because the PC is bricked. Yes this has happened to people in the past and it is sad as there is not much that can be done about that.

The 4070 should be fine however if you want it to be a little longer lasting graphics wise then go with the 4080 or higher. Make sure you have a minimum 32 GB DDR that can be expanded/upgraded.

If you are going to be streaming etc you may want to look into a minimum 2 TB SSD NVME hard drive.

Cooling systems and fans should also not be neglected. Personally I prefer liquid cooling systems.

If you need any other advice just post and tag me here, always willing to help out another gamer.

In regards to Apex (and most other games) , it doesnt really matter if you opt for a fast i5 or the top i9.
Given the same GPU is used, the FPS will differ in the single digit percentage.
There are some exceptions like "The Finals", where its better to have a top notch CPU.
AMDs RX7800/7900 series might be also worth a look, if fps per watt is not an issue for you.
With the new 5000 series, prices for previous generations will drop, so it might be a better option to go with the 4070 if you dont wanna loose a chunk of money only bcs the new generation hits the shelves.
imho X070 series models from Nvidia were always the "best bang for the buck" option, as i experienced myself and with a lot of my friends.

@Asmodeus566 Thank you so much for the advice. It sounds like the 4070 should work well. I will also check on the other specs you mention here. I believe the one I was looking at has the 2TB hard drive and liquid cooling system, but I will double check to make sure. I appreciate the help.

@r1ggedgame Also, thank you for the advice. This makes me feel much better about the one I'm looking at. I bet sometimes newer generation processors can drop in price once an even newer one is released, so the 4070 is probably the best value, especially if the difference really isn't noticeable.

@AymCTLI think it’s best to work backwards on this. What resolution and at what refresh rate are planning to play at?

The 4070, especially the super variant, should be plenty for most people. You could always upgrade the gpu in 2-3 years and leave everything else alone.

Personally I have a 3070 for a 1440, 175hz monitor, and it stay’s pretty much locked at 170fps. It’ll dip if there’s a ton of stuff going on. I think that if I had a 4070 it would be plenty for myself. Of course the 4080 would be a little better, but diminishing returns.

edit: If you’re lucky enough to live near a microcenter, I’d highly recommend their powerspec house built PC’s. They’re priced really well, high end components, and the builds are clean.

The game isn't really that hard to run really, you're also better off with i7, the i9 is just extra cooling trouble you don't want to deal with, or AMD would work, because AMD makes more sense for gaming in current CPU lineup.

Depends on the specific chip, not all i9 chips have issues? I’ll agree that it’s safer to go with the i7 however if you’re not going to do any research.
There’s a couple of notorious i9 cpus that are very hard to cool, so you do need to watch out for that.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of the cooling issues beyond what was said earlier about making sure it has a good cooling system like a liquid cooler. I will ask about that. I wasn't really sure what the difference was between i7 and i9, but if more cores means it's harder to cool then getting the i7 may be better. If an i7 with the 4070 will run as good as the others then saving the money may be worth it.

@RaginSam all i9 chips you'd buy today are furnaces, you'd be better of getting AMD or i7 for gaming, i9 is mainly for enthusiasts and other specific groups

@AymCTL save for whatever you'd like, Apex isn't that new so anything current will completely destroy it unless you want all graphics topped off and still have high fps, I'd also consider wondering other areas or games, because personally I wouldn't build a PC just around playing Apex

@AymCTLLots of awesome advice in here. You're going to be blown away in the difference in the game no matter what you get.
Good luck to you. You complain about cheating now with a Switch. You haven't seen anything yet moving to PC.
