Apex is dying . . . fake news or not?

So everybody online is on the "APEX IS DEAD!!!" bandwagon.  Per the Steam charts, there is short term fluctuation in player count but long term growth.  Feels like the stock market to me where everybody freaks out about short term changes.  A quick check of the Origin player count had it at about 300k as I write this.  What are console player counts?

Is the death of Apex fake news to you?  I really think it is just a way to try & get Respawn's attention about the long standing issues that the community has been complaining about for years.

  • @HappyHourSumwur People love drama. Youtubers that need to make daily videos need something to talk about so they make these vids. There's been things that have resulted in a drop in viewership and player count such as changes to ranked, poor sbmm and big name games being released. But it's far from dead.

  • Look, Apex is just not that good of a game.

It's not bad.  Certain things are done right. The gun play is great (not in the way the game play is, but sound effects, feel, etc.), the art is astounding...often, there are a few bad jobs.  Marketing is well done, because people fall for purchases easily, even when they don't matter much... I mean, count how many skins you can wear on a character for a game...that's right, it's 1.  Not the ridiculous amount some people have in their inventory.  And sure, while people can switch, rest assured there are many purchased skins that sit, never being used for more than the initial gamer or two).

But is the game good?  No.  And before anyone gets their undies shrunk over it, that's not a personal statement.  Some people will think any game is the bestest ever.  Good as in above average.  It's a solid average.  Because Ranked sucks and has always sucked.  It just got worse over time, since season 12, so it's funny to hear people scream about it like it's a new thing.  Sure, the changes are new, but whatever version of ranked has existed has not been good. Hey, they don't even use it for pros...and before you go on about how you need a ranked system for casuals different than pros, I will agree...

...because casual players logging online for countless hours is what a company needs for revenue, and that's why you have to play forever to get to masters.  Even in the current season.  You, the player, is the product for the company to make money off of.

Anyway, aside from ranked, no Battle Royale is a serious thing. I made that mistake a while ago, but I kind of knew that a long time ago.  BRs were always stupid cheesy fun when first introduced.  No self-respecting gamer took them to be the main game mode.  And that really changed with Fortnite and YouTube, even though yes, there was PUBG long before that.  You don't get Fortnite money, however, without streaming, Twitch, YouTube, etc.  Overwatch, in fact, super failed at it after an initial success, but you can see how they so, so lost the battle to freemium, and are super sucking wind now.

You can't have a freemium game that is the best game ever.  You can have a freemium game that makes the most money ever, and gets people to log in a lot.  But good? No.  Fair. Average. Okay.  Good for what you pay.  But not good overall.

This video game is the pop song you've heard too much of and are sick of, but still makes Ticketmaster all the money.
