I more or less agree with the OP. I don't think Apex has truly progressed the way many felt like it would this time last year. Season 2 was a nice progression with significant map changes, the two best town takeovers in Octane's Gauntlet and the Labs, and a lot of cool stuff added for the first time to the battle pass. Season 3 did give us a whole new map. Season 4 didn't really add much other than minimal map changes to WE.
So what did people expect to happen? There was a lot of talk this time last year about new game modes that could be added, PvE content, even Titans or some direct tie in to Titanfall 2. None of that really happened. To me, the fact Warzone added Plunder mode is huge. Plunder is a fun change of pace to the BR. It allows players to shift gears and have fun exploring that huge map. They can do so without worrying about a circle shrinking or someone rolling up on them and sending them back to the lobby because they decided to stop and look at something.
I'm hoping this Quest mode is Respawn coming around to the idea that there's so much more potential to this game than just being a standard BR. Even FN has a full single player and co-op experience.
