Before cross platform: account merge?

@cheatercheater00 Sorry, but around launch there was the following comment basically saying cross-progression isn't going to happen.
"Although cross-play is unavailable at launch, Respawn told Eurogamer it "plans to allow players to play with their friends on other platforms". Cross-progress and cross-purchases, however, will never be possible in Apex Legends, "due to the way systems were set up early on" which "can't [be] reconciled after the fact".

What if they did something like you can transfer your data/merge accounts over to one platform once for every EA account. So like if I had stuff on PS4 and then merged with my PC and chose PC as my main platform, all my stuff would transfer over to PC but I would never be able to get the stuff back on PS4.
