I'll second everything blek said about Ash. With the problems in the game right now her movement skills are probably the best way to survive longer and get more shots in.
Other legends when you can't play Ash that I like to use are Bloodhound since his tac can show you where the enemy is hiding even through walls. Also, Loba is good to play since she can warp around by throwing her bracelet, which makes her a good movement legend almost as good as Ash, and her ult "black market" allows you to steal loot from nearby buildings.
Those 3 legends, and good communication with your teammates, will help you survive longer despite the game's current issues.
