Can there be a quick, inactive time-out penalty for campers?

Idk if this is still the case but one time I sat in a spot in king’s canyon to step away for a few minutes. After about 5 minutes I had been booted from the match for inactivity.

Can it be lowered it to like a minute or two for those who sit on top of canyons, mountains, and treetops and just camp the entire from start to finish to reduce it from happening match to match given the nature of ranked currently? If there is still in activity penalty, that is?

And before any of the “jUsT pLaY dEaThMatCh” crowd comes on here and defends it, or I’m given a “don’t hate the player, hate the game” response:

  1. Ranked is as the word is, ranking the best players from the top down, and that usually requires a combination of eliminations AND placement.
  2. I understand if someone is hungry to get to master and will do whatever is necessary to get there and use what is given to them (meaning it’s easy to camp this season and get there), but you’ll more than likely have a teammate or two who actually does care to participate in the match and you leave them hanging out to dry because you’d rather pigeon your way to a victory just to show off a badge that you really shouldn’t have earned to begin with.

  • Thing is someone camping that long is going to have crap weapons, crap armor and just get rolled end of game no?

  • This is the reoccurring debate of ratting (campers) versus hot dropping (push squads), which there is no "wrong" method.  It is just a matter of play style.  Hot dropping is likely to get you killed faster than ratting.  While I don't hot drop, I seldom stay in one spot for long hidden.  Today for example; I was on Olympus and needed to get 3 neutral care packages.  I needed to land at the clinic for the first one (easy pickings) but it meant I needed to jump early.  I saw another team was landing at the clinic so I landed to one side and looted there.  After 30 seconds I headed over to the clinic and they didn't bother to call for the package.  I got my blue armor and called the package and of course it arrived with purple.  I set out for the next nearest care package remaining very stealthy. But it was looted already.  The last one was the other side of Terminal, since I was Valk, I used my ultimate to land near it.  Inside was the bocek I got 2 out of 3 and was now in the top 5 without a fight.  I ran over to Hammond Labs and started flinging arrows at random and finished 3rd with only 6 pts damage to my name.

As you can see, I had fun.  The others playing had fun. I don't see that dropping in to play for 2 minutes in a 20 minute match is a lot of quality time spent.  If I need survival on my daily, the very worse thing I will do is hide inside the first ring, and go grab a coffee or use the bathroom.  Sometimes I have landed dead last and next to me will be an AFKer or someone who got called away at the wrong moment.  I will punch them to death, but that was their misfortune or bad decision.

How would we know they are camping and not just off using the bathroom or putting out the grease fire on the oven?

@Xubunnytwoat least from what you’ve described, you’re still engaging with the game from what it sounds like.

As for your other point, I didn’t outline this in my main post because I didn’t want to drag it on too long but here’s what I’d recommend at least (if it’s even possible)

They would have to find a way to either put a “get back in the game” warning on hiding spots that are NOT on the ground or somehow time out people who, say, hide up in trees or on mountain tops. Personally, I don’t care if someone camps while they’re on the ground because it’s easier to be found by other teams compared to up in a tree somewhere. And you’re right, if I have to camp for a minute because I need to step away, I’ll go hide somewhere on the ground generally, so as a result, idc if that gets penalized.

This is more about campers who sit up in trees or mountaintops the entire match as a valk or pathfinder and cannot be seen by people on the ground and, as a result, don’t contribute to the whatsoever. It annoys me so much to have a teammate that will land on the other side of a map from me and go sit up somewhere where the average player on the ground can’t see them and you know they’re deliberately camping as opposed to needing to step away from the game for a minute.

I can't see any point in any inactivity boot if the game isn't going to replace a booted player on the fly. Which it isn't.

And you are definitely right: I AM going to say, "Don't hate the player, hate the game." By "game" I mean "ranking system." But honestly, don't even hate that. The game is telling you what it values in gameplay with this current system, and if what it values does not align with what you value as a player then have the courage of your convictions and continue to play the game the way you believe it should be played. And if that gets you to low plat instead of the high diamond you're used to then it's on you to deflate your ego and rest easy in the knowledge that you are in fact a better player than the flawed system is telling you that you are.

Or play pubs instead. It's the same game after all, only without the illusion that random teammates will somehow be competent or share your meta.

@DaDeDimson That is of course a solo Q'ers perspective.

What if the whole team is camping?

The root of the whole problem is not really the Hot drop Henrys who also ruin the ranked experience for other players because dropping on top of 4 other teams is more than likely = a loss of RP/LP or the Campers that slow walk there way to higher placement and or RP/LP.

The problem is the Ranked system that is unbalanced. If one could fix that then most of the other styles of play will balance out but will still happen because of some differences in playstyles.

@Asmodeus566 I get that, but at least in my experience so far, I have had way more teammates camp from the start on a higher frequency this season than the average amount of times I was thrown carelessly into a hot drop zone from past seasons.

Yes, you’re almost certainly going to gain more LP from camping vs hot dropping carelessly, but why even call it a battle royale at that point? There’s literally no “battle” taking place with that approach and it’s more so a glorified game of hide and seek.

Tbh, the previous point system was fine where there was no RP cap (but I would argue the entry costs were a bit aggressive) that way you gave incentive to want to engage with other teams and strategize on how to win.
