Criticism

This guy made a semi-decent FPS game from scratch in 10 days that could easily be passed off as a 5 dollar title with some improvements, and we can't get a halfway decent, consistently performing, bug free game that everyone of all skill levels can enjoy after 557 from launch until today 8/13/2020.

These guys address community feedback on a recently implemented feature (Patch 0.15 Released August 6th) 5 DAYS AFTER IT WAS IMPLEMENTED, and we've gotten nothing but silence and a once in a blue moon "developer update" after the Iron Crown Event took place. Not to mention they're debuting a second developer log, a week after the first one came out. Our last dev-stream was 3 weeks ago, and then the next one was a month before that, and then the next was 5 months from then. A whopping total of 3 dev-streams in 165 days, averaging one every 55 days.

Gunfire Reborn devs have introduced 15 updates solving bug fixes, adding items, fleshing out mechanics, revamping abilities, and providing clearer English translations to in-game text from May 22 until now roughly 84 days ALL WHILE DURING PANDEMIC CONDITIONS, and we're stuck here with developers who are 100% likely going to under deliver the upcoming season and blame it on Corona Virus.

Deep Rock Galactic has managed to keep their overwhelmingly positive review score on Steam FOR TWO YEARS, and criticism from those reviews have been taken into account, which is apparent after scrolling through the reviews for a bit and seeing things like, "Repetitive, can't play solo, too dark, not enough content, etc. etc." and seeing the developers actively put in counter measures to those negative reviews. Repetitive gameplay is currently being worked on by adding in new-gamemodes, as well as more enemy variety per area, more diversity in existing areas, more varied terrain, etc. etc. Solo play has recently been buffed with the introduction of a versatile multi-tasking drone named BOSCO, who does everything from lighting up areas, mining rocks, and killing bugs. Not enough content has been increasingly crushed with the introduction of Deep Dives, an intricate customization menu for both weapons and armor, perk system, as well as some of the above mentioned items. Too dark has been addressed with decreased flare recharge time, a flare gun for the scout class, and BOSCO if you're playing solo.

Yet here with our developers, our feedback is CONSTANTLY ignored. After 557 days we have no solos despite it being requested, we have no rotating LTMs despite that being requested, we have no community created content despite the multitudes of threads coming up with their own unique take of Apex, our matchmaker has been flawed for seasons on end now, audio bugs still persist despite the abundance of feedback regarding that, challenges are still obtuse and clunky despite having player feedback on that too, and 557+ days for cross play despite people asking for it on day 1?

Sometimes I think, am I asking too much of the developers? Is it too much for them to listen to community feedback, to provide tested bug-free content, to implement modes that the community frequently asks for, to remove or improve their matchmaker drastically to provide a quality experience for all levels of play, to fix bugs that have persisted for seasons on end, while upgrading their shoddy servers and net-code to provide a better experience all around?

Normally I'd say, "No, those sound like reasonable qualities for a game to have. A game that shotguns updates without listening to its player base is bound to fail, because what is a game without its player base? Games that are consistently enjoyable at all levels of play, with a decent matchmaker have been done before, and the more bugs you fix before you launch content ensures your players will enjoy the content rather than feel like unpaid beta testers like in Warframe. Plus, having better servers and net-code ensures that everyone can perform equally well, as well as remove the frustration of being shot around corners and stuff, it's why Overwatch swapped from like 20 tick to 60 tick servers. "

But with these devs? It seems like they just can't handle it.

  • @pastaclown Really enjoyed that YT video makes me want to try it myself even though I have no knowledge or experience to do with any of that xD

I hear you about the developers tho. It's like they can't really counter argue that it's a small team when you've given examples of developers that are thriving. What I don't really understand is if they're working on up to season 12/13 content to whatever degree why can't they fix issues we've had for ages? Surely you could pull back on three or so seasons and perfect what we have / or is in the immediate future. I probably won't even be playing Apex come like season 10/11 anyway.
