@Redmattgameraising the tick rate would be the same as throwing gasoline to extinguish a fire.
Are you implying that Apex couldn't operate with servers at a higher tick rate than it currently does at (20hz).And as you mentioned previously that you're a game dev so is there truth in what I mentioned about games operating on low tick servers are prone to suffering from high ping, unresponsive & laggy performance type issues? I'm just curious as it is what I was always led to believe. Also in your comment to Partywurm you didn't park any blame at EA or Respawns door, are they not accountable for any blame in the freezing, getting kicked off servers mid-game & other performance issues issues in the game since the last update a few days ago?.
Let's say they raise the server snapshot (or update) rate from 20hz to 60hz. This translates to 3 times more data to be processed per second, but also requiring a 3 times bigger bandwidth. The first one means more stress on the servers but also on the client devices, causing more framerate / performance instability. The second one means a more unstable connection, with a lot of lag spikes and higher chances of packet loss. In short, more crashes, freezes, disconnections and lag. Sure, those who are lucky to own high end gaming pcs won't be that much affected, but the vast majority of the players are still on previous generation consoles or on average / lower end pcs / devices.
I'm not playing the blame game, but trying to give people the full picture of the problem. And, contrary to the popular belief around here, it's in the best interest of everyone for the game to run as smooth as possible. That would be the most profitable for EA, Respawn, Multiplay and for everyone else who invested in this game.
- Gabrielmojo264 years agoSeasoned Ace@DoYaSeeMe Meh, plenty of other games run perfectly fine with a higher tick rate, even Fortnite lol
- 4 years ago@Gabrielmojo26 The average amount of data & actions to be processed in Apex each second is higher than in Fortnite and probably peaks much higher at times. This also applies to other games, like Valorant, Overwatch, etc.. This besides the differences in game engines, server models, mechanics, etc. which make this an apples vs oranges comparison.
- Gabrielmojo264 years agoSeasoned Ace@DoYaSeeMe What I’m saying is, the majority of the playerbase has forgiven Respawn time and time again, I think we’ve had enough of that now. They have the means to upgrade. Most, if not all games, kept up with the demand, Respawn seems to be stuck in the year 2000 when it comes to netcode and infrastructure. How do you screw up the game this bad, and I mean really bad, with a simple POI and Rampart buff.

That would be the most profitable for EA, Respawn, Multiplay and for everyone else who invested in this game. But all the issues you suggested from raising the tick-rate from 20hz-60hz like framerate/performance instability, unstable connections, lag spikes, freezes, crashes, Disconnections etc has been happening to many of us for a few seasons already (& sometimes some us have suffered for weeks) & that's with the 20hz servers they already use.I'm not a PC owner so I'd like to think I'm not affected by the high CPU usage scenario but I am a PS5,PS4 & Xbox One & the game can play like dogwater on all of them.
This isn't a question to try & catch you out or anything but as a curious person merely trying to pick your brain with your extensive knowledge, do you believe that Apex has surpassed in size, limitations & capability of the last gen consoles (PS4 & Xbox One) in a holding the game back scenario (it looks like you touched upon it in your comment) & what do you believe is holding the game back regarding a next gen upgrade (PS5,Xbox X/S)) considering it is one of the last multiplayers to get one with nothing in the pipeline?

They will be releasing a new game, so they drop Apex on instant, because they now have a better money maker game. Of course they won't say it, try to explain this with "servers problems", but no, they want to kill this game as fast as possible for the new bright future.
