Do I need the most expensive internet service in order to play Apex?

I recently changed my internet service from AT&T to Spectrum. And actually have a higher download speed compared to AT&T now. However since the change, everyday from 11 am until late in the evening, the apex server I’m closest to, operates at 150 ms ping throughout the day. It’s unplayable.  But from the hours of midnight until 11am, the game plays fine.  So as long as I never sleep, I can play.  But it makes me wonder why does it operate fine during those hours and not during the day??  I’ve done everything I can possibly do on my end. I generally want to know, do I need Verizon or AT&T 1GB internet, in order to have a stable connection with an apex server?

first u gotta check if the problem its you or  apex, u can do this by doing some " cmd, type ping google -T " this will send packets to google if u got missing packets means mostly your internet its bad, otherwise its apex

  • At about noon today I had packet loss. I’m currently looking at 150 ms ping for my server. But when playing a game this shoots up 200+, and causing constant “rubber banding”.  Again, from 8am to 11am it was hovering around 50 ms ping.

For context, my download speed at this same time is 400 mbps.  From what I read, theoretically, only 100 mbps is needed.  Ping is the most important variable for stable connection.  Once the ping reaches over 100ms ping, the connection begins to fail.

Why is the ping jumping up during the hours from 11 am to 11pm everyday?  Am I just not supposed to play during those hours?  Is that for streamers only?  Please advise.

its not about bandwitch is more about  the quiality of the service, packet loss, latency etc etc

  • Fellow Spectrum customer here. They're not great. Service is wildly inconsistent, and not from one time of day to another, but from minute to minute. You never know when or why you'll get the "slow down," but it happens a lot. It's rarely bad enough to disconnect me from the game, but it's sometimes enough to alter the outcome of an engagement. And it's never in my favor, I can tell you.

Maybe this is Spectrum's way of trying to encourage gamers to spend more for better service, but I have a very good feeling that if I spent the extra money I'd get the exact same shoddy product. So I've made my peace with it. It isn't as if I was ever going to ALGS anyway.

Today was real bad.  Every match was lag spikes and packet loss. And at the same 11am time, and will last until the end of the day.  Are you using spectrum equipment like me or did you invest in a $200 router?  Like you, im afraid of investing more money into this, if the problem is on Apex server side.

How should I combat packet loss?  What can I do?  I’m doing all the recommended suggestions like Ethernet cord, manual DNS settings.  I guess I just really want to know if it’s apex servers or is it my internet service provider.  What’s really strange too, the sever closest distance to me, doesn’t even have the best ping sometimes.  The server 200 miles further in distance will have a better ping.  But because it’s so much further, it has constant lag spikes. Ever since they switched to Amazon servers, there’s been constant issues and crashes.  I wish they’d go back.

I have a Spectrum router. My system is hardwired to it, no wifi gaming. The only wireless in the chain is my controller.

I will say that when EA switched to Amazon Cloud (I think it was Amazon?) a few months ago, I noticed a lot of problems at first, but they seem to have ironed themselves out over time. Which points the finger back at Spectrum as far as I'm concerned. And I get that live gaming puts a kind of strain on an ISP that normal streaming or web surfing or voice over IP does not. But still, they could try harder. In the mean time I don't consider the problem bad enough to motivate me to do anything about it, especially when I'm already spending as much money on internet as I'm willing to spend. And have no competitive ambitions as far as the game goes. It's just for fun.

Yup I got the same setup. And I feel the same way, I’m not spending a fortune on internet to play a video game.  Just would like to know if it’s my internet or if it’s the game.  Unlucky for me, I've come to the conclusion it’s apex servers.  After running a ping test,  My internet performed phenomenal. Every ping test was under 20ms.  And I ran this test 20+ minutes (the length of a game).  So at least I know I don’t have to change providers, just change my entertainment HA. Thanks for the help.
