I'm gonna leave aside the "I Smurf a lot" although I could go on for hours about why that's bad, whether soloing or teaming.
But what caught my attention was "I'm capable of climbing to diamond most seasons." Never been there myself as I'm not a ranked player, but isn't this the level of play where you SHOULD be getting instabeamed the moment you poke your head out of cover? Isn't this the level of play where most every enemy you encounter is good enough to pass for a cheater even if they aren't actually cheating? Isn't this the level of play where the game is supposed to become a literal bloodbath?
In the end I'm not sure there's anything wrong with the game because you are getting shot at by enemies... unless you can tell me that for the first 21 seasons of the game, on your primary only, you had a 1.5 k/d consistently, and now in season 22 it's dropped to .75. That would tell me objectively that something is wrong - more so than "playing against highly skilled enemies isn't fun."
@reconzeroI have been playing on and off since about season 4. These last few seasons have been rough. Like I said, late at night, even in Gold 1, I'm going up against Diamond and Master 3-stacks, as a solo queue. It's not fun what so ever. Hell, even during the day this is happening, during peak hours.
And yes, I'm pretty convinced that either you need to inherently have god aim, or people are cheating in the higher ranks. Some people are out of this world with their aim, like some of the pros, but I'm a normal guy. I naturally have above average aim, but I don't do trainers or anything, kinda defeats the purpose of gaming in my opinion.
@ComicBookGuy2727I don't believe I'm on of the "top complainers of MM". I do complain about it, but rarely is it my focus. I have said that there's a big disparity between my teammates and my opponents. Like I'm getting people in Gold that barely seem to understand the game, while going against these well coordinated 3-stacks with 4k damage and 20 kill badges.
I haven't been in Diamond for quite a few seasons at this point. I'm just trying to say I'm a capable player, but not the best either. I'm a much better player than when I started, but so is every else. As I've gotten better at a steady rate, it feels like everyone else got better exponentially.
I'm opening up about my habits, not trying to hide anything. I'm sharing my findings while climbing through the ranks multiple times a season. I think that it gives me perspective that some don't get to see. I'm going to find a way to make gaming enjoyable for myself. I love shooters, and I love gaming, but it gets depressing getting stomped over and over. I'm in the same boat as you guys. Believe me, I'm not the problem here, it's a flawed game design, and a lack of combating cheaters.
Edit: I wanted to mention that I'm not a Diamond player. I over stated that a bit. I have climbed to Diamond a few times, but a lot of seasons I get to Plat 1 and it feels like my teammates just throw. So while I'm capable of climbing, these previous seasons I have not climbed to Diamond, the game gets way too frustrating, for me at least, to stick it out and climb through that rank. Honestly, every rank at this time feels identical. There's just no movement what so ever once you get to high Plat lobbies.

Not to quibble, but if you've made diamond ever then you're a diamond level player. Mostly. I get that the thresholds are a moving target from season to season, but getting to diamond in almost any season is a feat few players achieve and it tells me you're on your game.
I feel your pain on the subject of the matchmaking. If you solo queue then you're playing a game that hates you and doesn't care what happens to you. We are here to feed the stacks and that is all. And I imagine that's even harder as a plat/diamond level player because you WILL be finding the cheaters in addition to the non-cheating stacks, if there are even any of those left.
So yes, I get the smurfing. I spent my entire Halo 3 career starting a new account every three months just to get some relief from that game's atrocious matchmaking. But starting with Reach, and carrying through this game, I've learned to just not try so hard and that generally teaches the algorithm that I'm not really interested in the sweating. It's mostly worked. It still mostly works. The matchmaking in this game is far from perfect, and it really does hate solos, but it could be so much worse. Of course, that won't really work if you're serious about a rank grind, but from the sound of things you've given up on that anyway. Start a new account and stick to pubs. And be willing to quit matches that have that sweat-filled feeling. That's how you train the matchmaker. I know this isn't what you want to hear in the way of a solution, but there really is no "real" solution unless Respawn overhauls matchmaking. Don't hold your breath on that one.- 2 years ago@reconzero There definitely feels like the use of EOMM at play in this game. Which honestly should be illegal. I notice that it does tend to favor people who like to just hot drop, lose fights, and eventually the game gives them an easy round. I had friends that insisted on just pushing everything, and it didn't seem like they would improve at all lol. I like to win, and I tend to make routines on how I play games, so maybe I'm the odd ball.
I keep trying other shooters, but they just refuse to innovate and do anything interesting for the last decade at this point. It's so stale, and that's why Apex is so frustrating. I absolutely hated BR's, but Apex figured out a way to make it a lot of fun. They really nailed the dynamic of hectic game play, with some breaks in between, all while working towards an actual goal.
Hopefully something decent comes out soon so I can mix it up more. Waiting on Marathon, but nervous how that's going to turn out.- reconzero2 years agoSeasoned Ace@WhoopFighter
"They really nailed the dynamic of hectic game play, with some breaks in between, all while working towards an actual goal."
This made me laugh out loud. Not because you're wrong, but because you're absolutely right... and yet I play this game for one reason and one reason only: because they really nailed the dynamic of allowing me to calmly do absolutely nothing for 17 minutes, all while working towards the actual goal of still being alive when there are only two squads left. One man's famine, another man's feast, as they say.
I'm mildly curious myself about Marathon, although the Bungie of today is a far cry from the Bungie of Reach. I remember trying Destiny while it was still in beta. 60 seconds of that was enough to know it wasn't the game for me. Hoping Marathon might be, but like you, not holding my breath.
In the end, for all the reasons we've already talked about and oh, so many more, I would prefer a good PvE shooter or maybe an extraction BR. The fewer live enemies, the better. Time will tell. Till then, best of luck.
