Exotic shards has got to be a joke, right?

With all the issues Apex has, Respawn really took the time to introduce a new form of currency right now.  That has got to be a joke, right?

I too ponied up at the end of the first year as "thanks" for Winter Express. But that's why I pony up, to thank for something good in the hope that good things would continue to come, as you say. Hence my one and only payout to Respawn in 21 seasons.

But I'm confounded by the people who collect everything to the tune of vast sums of money that they could be putting in an IRA, a college fund, or even just using to take their sweetheart out for a nice dinner.

I was reading some "journalist" on the subject of the current Microsoft/xbox meltdown and he described it as, excuse the paraphrasing, the "excesses of late stage capitalism." Now I'm not exactly a card-carrying socialist (not yet anyway), but all of this stuff seems to be part of a larger picture of pure, naked corporate greed. You can do any sh*tty thing you want as long as you hide behind the "shareholder value" schtick. Like somehow Satya Nadella (or Andrew Wilson for that matter) are gonna be out of a job if they don't screw over a certain percentage of employees (and customers) per quarter? So yeah, Exotic Shards. Why not? Who's gonna stop 'em?

its pretty stupid to add another pay for micro currency when they already have apex coins.....

Exotic shards exist for the sole purpose of discovering who indeed is stupid enough to fall for this kind of stuff. Not to be cynical, but who would fall for buying anything ever in a free-to-play game?

@reconzero I see buying stuff on a free to play game as a way of saying thanks for a good product in the hopes that it contributes to it continuing. When you pay up front the risk is yours, when it is free to pay the risk is on the developer. Needless to say, I have not spent real money on Apex since the first Battlepass I bought when I started playing in Season 8.
