The problem is right now there is nothing to work towards... if you log in and are level 500, with over 100 apex packs to open, sure it's a rush for an hour or so... then it's over.
You're back to having nothing to work towards again.
It's might be better to slowly unlock rewards and share the moments with friends again, rather than just boom it's over.
Kudos to the development team for listening to the community and implementing these level progression changes.
And I know that we are all excited about getting more apex packs!

Everyone will be reset back to level 100. There was a reddit post about it from a dev.
Some dude hacked my account a little while back and grinded untold amounts of XP by going AFK for thousands of matches. Ruined my stats. But now I will be able to enjoy more fruits of their labour that they never got to. Needless to say I am over the moon about this news!
