Geforce now
Tried it yesterday and gotta say I'm pretty impressed, paid a fiver for a month booted up Apex with graphics set to 1080p and it looks stunning compared to my pc and miles better than Xbox one and th...
Mate this is incredible.
Wow so easy to setup account and connected to my steam account.
Steam Profile and Game Details on Steam had to be set public to allow sync to happen. Sync failed a few times but kept clicking and it worked.
There is a 5 min wait time, seemed longer on last min so it is just estimate. So yea have to pay £5 monthly for immediate it seems.
Loaded up Hitman Absolution as an old Steam title I owned. Asked me to login FML won't let me copy my password from lastpass to virtual machine, so had to type in massive 25 character password manually.
Took 5 secs to install the game then launched. Put it on 1920x1200 which is my native monitor res with ULTRA settings.
It looks amazing! Hell latency is hardly noticeable.
The GeForce app uses like only 4% CPU
Pros
- You still own the games from Uplay, Steam, Origin and EGS
- PC digital stores are cheaper than Xbox and PS Console Store
C0ns
- Latency. Competitive disadvantage, even if small disadvantage the fact remains it is there.
- Goodbye to your friends on PS and Xbox unless you're playing a cross platform online game or willing to buy same game on more than one platform
- Not all steam games will work with GeForce Now. i.e. ALL Total War series is missing from my library sync WTF. Basically you have to make sure by searching in GeForce Now App first to check licenced before actually purchasing in Steam.
Now imagine you bought a game on Steam specifically to play on GeForce Now. But then later they pull licence plug!
Some interesting reading on "Why" on the legal even if technically you own the game, but someone else is still distributing it to you. In a sense Nvidia is making money by being middle man and need approval from every developer. Developers who can then turn around later to halt on GeForce Now when you've already purchased the game to own on steam.
Kind of puts me off GeForce Now if my Steam games could be pulled without warning should Devs decide to change their mind!
