There's no such thing as auto-punch. If you punch instead of fire it's because you're pressing down on the right-hand stick.
I had this "issue" so I switched jump and melee. Since then, I have not auto-punched once. But I have auto-jumped several times.
I even bought a controller with extra buttons so I could unmap the right-hand stick to switch jump to one of the extra buttons, but you cannot leave a button on the controller unmapped (which is kind of dumb).

If you have another controller to test with that may help too.
I had an old, worn controller I stopped playing Apex with because the R3 button was too sensitive, and I wound up getting killed a bunch of times by accidentally squeezing mid-fight.
Swapping to a newer controller, the issue went away for me. - outheg86 years agoNot applicable@EdwardDLuffy and also ive mapped my melee button to B. Which is NOT a button i accidentally push btw

Well, you're a nice guy aren't you?
As I said, I DID experience 'auto-punch', lots of times. I 'solved' it by switching melee and jump on the controller. Since I have done this, I have not experienced auto-punch at all, put I HAVE experienced 'auto-jump'.
As others will tell you, there is no such thing as auto-punch. If you punch during a fight, it's because you're pressing down on the right-hand stick, no other reason.
Happy to help, friend.

my R3 button is crouch? Im not accidentally crouching? Im accidentally punching??? It doesnt happen when theyre far away but its when were on the same floor in the same area?? Can you stop filling my post. If it was that simple i wouldnt have had tomake an account just to find an answer?

Your R3 button isn't crouch, you're lying. You've realised my answer was true and that you've embarrased yourself by being so insulting towards my genuine offer as an explanation, so you're attempting to save face by claiming you are 'auto-punching' when you've - for whatever bizarre reason - conveniently switched crouch and melee.
There's no such thing as auto-punch. It's been debunked countless times.
Happy to help, friend.

Hey, let's take it down a few notches, we all want the same thing here.
@outheg8 While I have seen scattered reports of "auto punch" persisting in a situation like yours, we haven't seen enough evidence to prove it, and accidental R3 presses are the cause in the vast vast majority of cases.
I don't know your setup, but if it replicates consistently in the Firing Range, a clip of it happening, with controller inputs visible, would be something I could forward to QA.
I know it's a big ask, but anything less likely won't lead to further investigation, as "auto punch" has been discussed extensively. - aisthebestletter6 years agoSeasoned Ace
I have also experienced this numerous times on Xbox. I use an elite controller V2 and have the right stick click as crouch, not punch. Punch is mapped to b. I don't accidentally hit b bit yet when I try and reload I punch. It is infuriating. Lost numerous fights and even wins because of this.

I've only seen it a couple of times a few seasons back, and that was a random melee cancelling out reloads.....nothing in months though.
I also had r3 as crouch, circle as melee.
