So let me start out by saying I don't read the patch notes (but I intend to start), I get most of my info here. I made it to Gold 4 last week but after a string of bad matches I was facing demotion back to Silver. Unfortunately that happened today & I'm thinking nbd I'll get a good game & get right back.
I was not aware there would be a 300 POINT DEDUCTION! Like WTH is that!? Are they trying to make people not want to play Ranked?!?

And yes demotion sucks really bad, luckily I have not had to suffer it yet.
think about what that means if you were demoted from plat or diamond.

It is not that they do not want people to play ranked but when you rank up you do get bonus protection RP so you must have had at least 3-4 bad games to get demoted.
I hate to say it but protecting RP once you hit gold is a must for a lot of players if they want to make the run for plat. I dislike this as it encourages campers, on the other hand the point of the game is to win.
if I ever happen to get demoted I will probably have a stroke.
I feel your pain, @Lord_Scorpion34 , and I've been unhappy about this among many changes to ranked.
But it might not be as bad as you believe. Mostly, it makes the road to Platinum even more onerous. You'll probably recover to Gold, but it's a much different story getting through gold because the -RP for entry escalates very quickly. But obviously you'll still be ranked Gold for the season as that was your high point and (I think) when you split, you shouldn't be down so much.
Forgetting the penalty for a moment, the math on Gold entry is that you have to place top 5 with no kills from your team or you lose RP. Kills can change the math on that but you still really need to be top 10 with a few kills for your match to be worth it. Considering you are supposed to be playing with and against people of your 'same skill level', if you get an unlucky streak, this can wreck you down to silver. Presuming you then have higher skill than silver...Respawn believes you'll be back in Gold.
In Reality HOWEVER, you often will get scrub team mates, an unlucky drop or 3rd party, and in the amount of games you play, you're going to hit long bad streaks. The art, to me, is to reduce RP loss when this happens and...very sadly probably if you are a team player, abandoning your team. But this isn't personal. I've seen my own team mates who are good, do it. If you have 2 mates down, you are the sole survivor, and they are swarmed by a full team or even a duo who took them down, you are best off leaving, not even going for their boxes no matter how much they ping you, and 'ratting' until the end. You have to really control the loss on the bad games as much as you can so when you do hit that one great game, and you bank 100-200+ RP, it pays back way further than you lost.
It's not perfect. Messing around, I recently had a -34 RP game, followed by two -8 RP games each. But I've got a cushion now in Gold because prior to that was something like a +173 RP win. If I had tried to save my mates in the last 2 games, however, since they were dead with 17 ish other teams still going, I would have suffered another two -34 RP games. -50 RP is way better than -102.
@KelRieverExactly. Usually players will leave you (more) in Plat. But leaving or separating from teams is now happening across all ranks cuz of these changes.
And you're right it's frustrating knowing you can get more points alone than playing with a team most of the time Especially since... this is a team game.
Let me tell you a story about Plat buy ins...

you are not really all that bad off. It makes the run for plat hard but it is doable. You do not have to camp get early kills just like before and then play smart fight the good fights and if they are not good rotate away for a reset and better position. Tho goal is to protect that initial RP and capitalize it with a win or 2nd place.
I am currently sitting at a 8.5% win rate at ranked but still in silver. I don’t play that much 60 matches so far this season but I will make gold and will def push for plat as I will be picking up the pace.
playing solo does not always hep but when you do get decent teamates it helps. One can still solo to play.
