I never used macros - but: why not?!

Since I joined Apex in S1, I have never used any hacks, cheats or other tools to gain an advantage in combat. Everything I have achieved in the last 22 Sasisons is based on training and will power.
But again and again I come across players who tap-strafe (neo-strafe, snake-strafe etc.) around me, which makes them nearly unhittable.

Movement, that is only possible to do with macros - and it doesn't seem to bother anyone.

So if Respawn tolerates something like this...why shouldn´t I start using macros myrself?

(I reported the last Octane I met several minutes ago but I know my "friends" from EA and Respawn: Nothing will happen!).

  • @W3stminst3r There are macros created with softwares that comes with the gaming keyboards/mouses and curently they are not able to take actions agains them because it will cause it to crash in environments that are not clear for normal people.

If you break the rules then you risk losing your entire account.

Not that scary when it's F2P...

The official stance is that its not okay, but not something that's enforced. Respawn already has a hard time detecting blatant rage hackers at the moment.

The root of the issue is game design and allowing movement to remain that isn't possible without using macros. Games are a never ending work in progress, when a problem like this arises, then you gotta figure out a way to clean up the code. Stuff like lurching can make a game feel smoother, but it comes at the cost of predictable movement in a multiplayer fps game. Especially with 20 tick servers and lag compensation.

That pretty much sums up Apex. It feels good to play, but is a deeply flawed designed game claiming to be competitive. If the game didn't pretend to be a competitive esport, then that would be a lot more forgivable, but yet that's the market it goes after.

Relying on "sportsmanship" as the deterrent to cheating is like relying on "integrity" to keep politicians honest or big business from taking unfair advantage of their monopolized markets. It sounds cynical, but common decency or a sense of fair play... these things hardly exist anymore. We live in a Nietzscheian dog-eat-dog world where the bottom line is the last word. Milk the system for all its worth, and win at any cost. There's nothing to stop you, and especially with an internet-based endeavor like gaming, plenty of anonymity to prevent any real-world consequences. And even if by some miracle you're caught by anti-cheat then you can just start a new account and keep going. The wheels on the bus....
