Improve in game sounds - how to
Posted about this before, but thought I'd put an update here.
This first post is an amalgamation of a lot of the information in this thread. Please read the posts for more detailed info and other suggested work around.
YT has a pc and had sound problems with the footsteps.
He got free software called Steel Series Sonar. It allows you amplify or take out sounds in the audio, and it comes with game presets.
He also got himself new headphones recently, TB recon 200. Mid range headphones in cost but very good audio from them.
He says he now hears footsteps miles away, and can accurately pinpoint enemies by sound.
Has anyone got any advice/pointers to add pl?

Edit 1:
Sonar settings from YT.
Using apex settings
Equaliser on.
Spacial audio needs to be on, headphone mode on and tuned to performance.
Smart volume on to max
He has turned his bass down to - 12db (all the way down)
He says the bass down gives a huge clarity.
Edit 2:
Found a way to get steel series sonar sound from xbox or even Ps 4/5.
Xbox hdmi goes to TV, (xbox 1s has no jack audio output) . TV has audio jack output. So using audio jack from TV audio output to laptop, and laptop to sound system works. TV is set to both jack and optical sound output.
But I have optical audio output from TV to sound system, no audio jack input on sound system. So I use a stereo system for audio output from laptop.
There may be a slight delay/echo running both the sound system and the stereo at the same time. So I'll experiment to see if there is an improvement running seperatly or togeather, if any.
Edit 3:
Another idea I'm going to try
Ps/xbox to hdmi splitter,
Hdmi to normal video output,
And a hdmi to audio jack adaptor to laptop/pc
To normal sound output headphones/speakers
Might work
Edit 4: using the DTS sound setting on xbox has really improved thr footsteps sounds.
Edit 5 (ongoing research)
I don't know if this will help, as I am not familier with ps5 of 4 but:
There's a suggestion of being able to adjust your eq on the ps5 here (only available with a Sony headset)
https://www.playstation.com/en-ie/support/hardware/ps5-change-audio-output/#eq
They suggest
- Shooter
Sound that emphasises shooting and footsteps during gameplay.
Also there's a bass boat, but yt found turning bass down on pc helped allow other sounds through.
I would look at the apex eq settings on the sonic software, as a starting point to help fine tune the ps5 eq.
Another alternative is to process the ps5 sound through a laptop, but I still haven't got that far on the xbox yet.
Edit 5.5 (better late than never, sorry @pandareno1999

At my friend's suggestion, I recently started playing with a couple new-to-me settings on PS5. I changed my audio format to DTS and my 3D audio profile to type 5. I do feel like I'm hearing in game audio (footsteps, mostly) better than before I made these changes.
DTS, that helped me on my xbox, is also an option on the ps5, but I cannot find out where or how yet.
Setup DTS on Xbox series X free for speakers, but may require a fee to be paid for headphones)

@OldTreeCreeperIf you have a headset that you can program the EQ, you can make console sound a lot better. I had Pulse 3D for my ps5 and the shooter setting on the console was better. I just bought Arctis 7P+ and you can connect them to a PC and adjust the EQ. I am currently in the tweaking process but started with what they suggest PC users use from their Sonar software.https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Feedback/Footstep-audio/m-p/12121601#M100763

@OldTreeCreeper I recently bought Arctis 7P+. As you mention, if on PC you can just use the Sonar but if you have Arctis headset like this one you can load a custom configuration onto them and use them on console. The headset needs to be connected to the PC. Go into the software and click engine and then click your headset.
Click on the headset and adjust/make customer EQ here:
The above are my current settings. Apex is much to bassy for me.
Below is the Sonar (PC) suggestion, which is what I copied into the Engine EQ:
Edit 8:
PC: Make sure all volumes are at 100%, so there is no sound loss internally. Decreasing volume should only be at the external headphone/Speaker stage.
Edit 9:
Have a new sound bar but it dosnt support DTS, and wouldn't you know, the footsteps are gone again.
But I've just discovered allowing pass through on the xbox and TV has again improved footsteps.
Edit 10:
If you use headphones and associated software that isnt sss, maby have a look at the Apex eq presets in sonar and try to emulate them on your own software/headphone eq.
